Still looking for contact with Bob Speece (He's STILL got my gear!)

Update with some great news!

Bob started communicating with me over the last couple months. He feels pretty bad about all this, and continues to do what he can. He remains very apologetic.

This week, I received my 3300. Perfectly packed, and returned looking absolutely pristine, WAY better than I sent - and I thought it looked great then.

I asked if I could share, and he said yes. He's working on other units as well.

Let's keep the good news coming!

Hi all, Bob is a great Marantz fixer and he's done a couple things for me, but I've been unable to reach him of late. Starting to worry a bit about him.
His handle here is

Bob is apparently in possession of equipment from a number of AK members,
who sent gear to him for refurbs - and - have neither heard back
nor gotten their gear returned in quite a while.
He may have had some health issues, and apparently moved.
Some folk are not too pleased with those facts.

The discussion thread on that is here

Yikes. Okay. Just read that thread. Seems as though he's been making an effort recently to get things done. That said, I live right nearby Bob's place in NY and was shocked to see that he has apparently moved to West Virginia. Not sure what to say about him taking my unit down there. He's had it for over two years. I could have just picked it up and had someone else restore it. Maybe someday I'll hear that it is done and ready to be sent back to me, but I'm not holding my breath.

Merged your post into the thread with the others.

Bob is a great and generous gentleman. It’s been known he has had health issues for some time. Let’s all hope that he recovers quickly and fully from whatever is keeping him the the work he loves and the people he loves helping.

^^^ Your avatar is of a completely opposite fella!

Ha ! It was Bob who saved the day and my extremely rare Marantz unit from the notorious noah. I was the first person who identified the guy in my avatar as at the very least a dishonest person who has since gone to prison after hurting a lot of people.

Bob was one of the few that defended me, went above and beyond then offered to fix the intentionally inflicted damage for free. This is why I call Bob a gentleman, because he truly is. Beyond that, he is a great self taught tech who more than generously mentored people here on this site. If I weren’t in so much trouble myself right now I’d contact Bob and ask him how I could help him.

I’m sending out some love for Bob. He deserves it.

Randy knows.

I'd like to say the same about Bob. Although he only refurbed one unit for me, I've talked to him on and off for quite awhile. Then when it came to my 250 amp, I shipped it from Iowa to Bob and back. Bob was on top of everything, he spent extra hours of his own trying to repair a sticky meter, then when he couldn't, he substituted a spare meter that he had. I almost wondered if he was as OCD as I was about his work.
My 250 came back to me in superior shape - Bob knocked it out of the park on many levels.
Thank you, Bob, I am in your debt.

Bob texted me about a month ago and said he felt like he had turned the corner. I've never asked exactly what health problem he was having. At that time, he said he had hopefully had his last surgery two weeks earlier, and was to get a follow up a few days after we texted. I haven't heard back as of yet. He did say that he had finished and returned three units (didn't charge for the restorations or the shipping) and had four more to go. So, barring a setback, I feel pretty sure everyone will get their unit back. I know has been a terrible situation for those who got stuck with their gear in an unknown situation. But I have dealt with Bob many times, and I never doubted that if and when he physically could do it, he would get the units back. I hope to see him back on here helping folks out the way he did when I first started this journey.

I have no doubt Bob will get caught up. While in NY I met several times. He is a good guy. Recapped a Marantz 2270 prepandemic. It gets played every morning. Wising you the best Bob,

Eric

I also had communicated with Bob about a month before that and he was looking to hopefully have my unit done by middle of March. Haven't heard from him since.

Wow, just read this post, I was going to drive over to Bob's place in Catskill NY to refurb a Marantz 1070, good thing I found this thread since apparently he is MIA, and also moved to West Virginia. I'll be monitoring... thanks

I think Bob genuinely likes working on gear and helping folks out. I think he has a good heart and really means well.
But sadly, his health issues have interfered with that.
And I would say that moving away from his old location and not sharing his new address or any kind of working contact information is not a reassuring move.
Honestly, until everyone he is currently working with has been made whole, please stay back.

It will be 3 long years come September…. Who waits that long….. My gear is done and cannot pick it up cuz I have no address. Now silence again. Things were going well……. Now nothing again.
