Stupid 5w SET Amp

Just be aware Dave, SET won't work well with those HPMs.

Sure they will, just think of them as really big headphones :D

Thanks for the info on SET and SEP guys.

Cut-Throat those are some really sweet looking amps!! :thmbsp:

Looks like I have a lot of reading and research ahead of me. Along with saving, saving, saving.

Jay, my new speakers will only be 104dB 2.83v/1m. My mains are right around 99dB 1w/1m but I decide to keep the new ones, the mains will have to go to the bedroom for spare system duty. The only EWG like speakers I have are right around 90dB

So both of these speakers look ideal for SET to me...:saywhat:

I dont mean to hijack, but would a 45 amp work well with my 96dB Fortes? I want to foray into a DIY SET system, and have been going back and forth between 45 and 300B.

These are the 38 cu ft speakers. :) Probably could work with a SET amp or with the SEP (1625 tubes) amp I'm working on. I'm keeping my expectations decidedly low.

I have used my 45 successfully with 93 db speakers to a pleasant listening level. If you listen with sound level peaks of 88db in a average size listening room, you should be OK. If you want ear splitting volume in a Large room, you may not be satisfied.

What I would recommend is to find another SET amp devotee in your area and try out some amps in your home.

I did use my 45 amps with some 97db single driver speakers and they were plenty fine for me.

Remember The $100 stylus? :D

Ha, I just noticed the extra tap on the primary Dave. I assume that's for the screen??:scratch2:

On these Heyboers

I just don't have words. I did like the 535 it is really smooth, but with heavier bass. If yours is similar then I can see how it works so good with your heresy's.

So when do you want the SET amp? :scratch2:

I'm not aware of any production amp using these tubes, I was just mentioning it because it seems to be the next halving of power 2A3>45>71A. Similar outputs required for all 3, just progressively less power.

I do plan on making one at some point. I have a schematic for a 71A amp set aside somewhere.
