I know just how you feel.:yes:

It is a contagious little disease. I plan on building one myself in the future, but that learning curve is pretty steep. If you happen to know of someone in your area that does this sort of stuff they can help a lot.
 
Ok, now it's out there !! I am gonna have alot of questions and will lean HEAVILY on those that are willing to assist. I will officially begin now, and start my own build thread!!!:yes:

Years ago I was fretting and asking all kinds of questions about how-to and what-if, and a very very experienced builder (famous pioneer in the SE triode revolution) said to me, "Set out to screw up, and you'll be fine." I'm not sure if that makes sense to everyone, but at the time it was just what I needed to be told. I quit worrying about getting it perfect the first time, and just put some stuff together. Generally it worked fine, and if I thought I could improve it, there was nothing to stop me from doing that after. I probably screwed up more things than I remember, but it was not a costly learning curve. I didn't electrocute myself or anyone else, I didn't destroy tubes or iron or caps... at worst I maybe had to resolder some section.

If my post title doesn't work for you, try this: Just set out to learn something, and you'll be fine.

Good line. But I think he meant, just figure there will be a goof or two along the way, and don't let that stop you from doing it. It wasn't really, TRY to screw up.

Some of us need some odd advice along the way. For me that was what I needed. I didn't actually let a lot of smoke out with my DIY... In fact I've had more popped diodes and resistors from commercial products squealing with my high AC (up to 125) than from my own disasters...
 
I know what it meant. I just had to quote Dan Marshall.:D

Of course that was in reference to building amplifiers by ear, without really any sort of measuring/testing.
