System Advice--recommendations for next upgrade?

Oh! And an addendum--I have been seeing a lot of of garbage tables with insanely good cartridges on them (e.g., this plastic JVC of no merit with an ortofon om20 for $50), so that's something I'll be keeping an eye out for too. Until I've got a new table (or find a stock counterweight--fat chance), though, I think the cartridge is kind of a moot point since i'd want to optimize for the table/arm.

There is an alternative, temporary and substantial upgrade in sound reproduction for a very cost effective price.

Hey, you're going at this in a very organized, logical, methodical way.

It actually sounds like a pretty good plan. I think you've covered all the best bases that you can at this point.

I found that my preamp choice made much more of a difference to the sound of any of the source components in my system, than my power amp did. Now ... that's only my opinion, so you may want to wait till another AKer agrees. (or disagrees). I ended up with an inexpensive, but very full and musical sounding, tube preamp (once I rolled some excellent tubes into it). It doesn't have a remote, which is a tad annoying at times, but it's been well worth it.

Good suggestion from Balifly. And the only real issue you need to address with matching a Cart and Tonearm is making sure the cartridge compliance is okay with the tonearm mass. That's the deal-breaker, anyway.

Oh, also ... get the BJCs from Amazon. They're almost half what I paid, from buying direct.
