I just picked up a Tandberg 64 from the GW for $10. It powers up but the motor doesn't run. I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to get the guts out of the case. Can you help me out on that?
Powers up, everything lights up, and makes sound if I rub the tape across the heads.
But the motor doesn't move. Same symptoms as the guy above, it would seem.
Does the tape need to be threaded through the mechanism around the heads properly for the motor to run? Or should it just run by turning it on, putting the joystick in the down position, and pressing the START button down?
Ahh, a guy on YouTube revealed that there is indeed a little catch that the tape must pass through before the motor can be activated. Go that figured out, now it's spinning!
But once I thread a tape through, it doesn't want to move around.
Maybe the drive belt is loose... Might take it to the fix up guy. It makes quite a squealing noise sometimes.
Tom,
I had similar problem with my Tandbert 64 I’ve got belts from Marrs Communications and that solved the problem. It seems everyone had good experience with them so you can feel confident you’ll get the correct size. I still have to do re-cap of power supply as Voltages are off… perhaps one day.
Good luck.
Jan
I appreciate your link.
I don’t want to hijack this thread but I acquired similar Tandberg Transport only. It has playback head only and no preamplifier – it has to be connected to Tape Head input on my McIntosh pre-amp. No model number on it.
Would anyone know what model that transport is?
Regards,
