Tangent Acoustics - ???

For anyone reading along, if you had a choice and could only afford one pair, I would suggest you select a pair of speakers from the RS series as opposed to the TM series. :)
 
Recently got a pair of RS-6s. One woofer was shot, but I managed to find exact replacements. I can see what the hoopla is all about. These are extremely fine sounding speakers. Glorious midrange, if a little shy on a the bottom. When A/B against my Magnepans they really point out the Maggies slightly suppressed midrange. To my ears, the perfect speaker would have to be a blend of the two.

If these are the RS6, then the woofers are in the Audax 8 inch range. Are they both the same or different, or one works as woofer and other as midrange? These particular woofer series with the mounting ears are the HD20B25H and then some additional numbers indicating the layers and length of the voice coil.

Check item number 370533396559. Very pricey from a German dealer in vintage speakers, not what I would consider a typical price. But it shows they are out there.

I log into other Ebay locations like UK and Germany, maybe France, to see if these show up, and if there's something I really need, try to negotiate for international shipping.

Another pair item #260874224782 in UK, much better price, check with seller, might be willing to ship to US. Especially if you mention you're trying to restore a British speaker with them. These were the exact woofers I used in the Tabor speakers I mentioned above.
 
Yes, those are the Tangent RS6 speakers with the Audex 8" mids / woofers. They are both the same, one works as a mid and the other as a woofer.

I had a blown woofer once and it was years later that I found (local) replacements in another dead speaker.

The price is too high for me, even if after all the readings I'm very tempted. I promised to my wife that I would never spend more than 50$ for any amps or speakers. Well I cheated once for a pair of Stark Designs ST-2A, promissing to sell them for profits as soon as I'd refoamed them. Well they're still sitting in the house waiting for an eventual buyer, giving me hours of pleasure everydayhttp://www.audiokarma.org/forums/images/smilies/music.gif.

Handsome speakers, well worth the price IMO. Get them, and play your wife's favorite music, let her be the judge of their worth, I suspect you could always get your money back by selling them if needed.

It depends on how you look at it!.....I paid $180 for my RS6's... in good working order....but the cabinets were used as plant stands...with a few nicks here and there...one small nick in the grill cloth. If you parted them out...the T-27 tweeters go for around $200-250/pr.....4x Audax woofers are probably $50+ each... crossovers...guess.= $40/pr??...Cabinetts=?? Grills =$20-30? Tags-$10-15/pr... I use to part out alot of speakers years ago....got alot more for some...parted out ..than when they were whole!!
 
I'm surprised at your pricing for T27s. They don't seem to go anywhere near that high in my experience. I say this not to be a know it all, but because if they do go for those prices, parting out the Tangents looks much more appealing than buying them to use, which it seems to me would be a pity. And it would be even worse if the poster ruined the Tangents only to find he got a fraction of what he expected to for the drivers.
I'm not saying that high range is wrong, but they could easily go for less, and anyone thinking about parting them out ought to do some research first.

I'm with ya Nat, and not to knock Teradacto, but parting out any of these classic British speaks is a real shame. Unless the speakers are incredibly shot, I can't see ANY reason to do that.

Just look what Rotary did with those KEF 105's he found almost completely destroyed in that bar.... that to me says ANY speaker can be restored if you are motivated enough! And I'm sorry, these classic speakers need to be preserved, not parted out! :tears:

I was bidding on a pair of Cambridge Audio R50's..2 years ago, at Christmas, on Ebay....they sold for $99.00.....I missed them!! ..I own a pair R50's also... Yes it's a shame on some of these to part out...I agree...but sometimes other people need part for restoring also! It all depends where you live too.... for pricing...We have a large Asian community out here....and they buy the stuff if they need it! It's like the Tannoy's you see for sale all the time....I don't think they are worth anything near to what they get for them! Another one is Western Electric speakers....are you kidding me?? Those prices people pay for them are a joke!! I seen a pair of 12" WE Speakers..... the owner was asking $42,000!! Stupid!!

I paid $90 for a single T27. Well worth it. I've seen pairs go in the 130-200+ range.

Love my RS-4's, total cost around $200. I currently have them paired with McIntosh 2105 Amp, Apt Holman Pre-Amp, Pro-Ject Debut turntable w/ Grado Sonata.
 
Wow - I'm richer than I thought! Though it seems to me that generally they go for much less. Perhaps the key is to pull them out of systems that sell for not so much -- KEF Corellis as an example - and sell them separately.
 
Howdy folks, kinda new to the vintage game (except back in the day when it was SOTA).

Got me an Onkyo TX2500 MKII that had lots of static and missing channels and after reading the forums for days I got brave enough to open 'er up and hit the pots with Deoxit. Fixed everything! Sounds good now except I'm sure new caps would make it better.

Then I got me some Minimus 7W's and made it my PC stereo by running a microphone jack to RCA.

Wanting bigger sound I found some Realistic 7B's that were kinda ruff and each had a tweeter out. Replaced those with originals and they sounded better but muffled. So I got to reading for days again and finally got brave enough to invest in a soldering iron ordered new electro caps from PE and got the job done. Perked them right up. Better in every way. A little sanding and wood filler and Restor-a-Finish followed with the Feed-n-Wax made them bonafide beauties.

Well you know how it goes.....found some Tangent RS4's locally and picked them up a couple days ago. Oh man they sound nice but a little cluttered.

So I got one open and can see that one of the caps is popped. I see three caps in there I think. What should I replace and what should I replace them with?

I'd appreciate any help.
