Ok well sorry to hear that none of y’all nakamichi stans are having any luck with these tapes, but has anyone here actually tried one in a Portastudio yet?
I think they know what there doing. Besides that's why it's 60 minutes only. And with reels is just a first promo release. There also going to release metal and type I again. 70 and 90 and for demo and promo'sThe reels are hard to turn even with a finger. I’m sure the wow/flutter is due to the tape and would happen in any machine. Unless the portastudio has extremely high torque motors I’d expect it would be the same.
You are laying it too thick for native advertising, so I am going to assume that you are simply dazzled and hypnotized by the shiny reels and misinformed about the performance, although "wow" may be the right word to use.I wouldn't complain about any cassette tape. Especially higher grade like type II high bias cassette tape, and brand new production. Manufactured properly and by the original tape consortia supported by professional and home audio brands like tascam especially! Well done Tascam! Or better WOW!

Read my post and refrain from silly assuming! You are laying it too thick for native advertising, so I am going to assume that you are simply dazzled and hypnotized by the shiny reels and misinformed about the performance, although "wow" may be the right word to use.

Its a promo release, conventional cassette housing will follow and other tape types.
The tape is brand new! And if you have a problem with it don't buy it then. Have you bought it already!? We're happy with new tapes. Period. And bad quality NAK tapes? Look I'm not a NAK man, never was; sold all my vintage NAK decks back to folks I bought them from last year. Bad overpriced unreliable cassette decks, yes the have made. But 'bad' cassette tapes, they never made or sourced / branded as there own. Aside pirated fake Nak tapes of dubious origin and quality which were, and are 'everywhere'.You understand that this is NAC tape in a fancy housing?
As such the same tape in a conventional housing has preceded it already, available from NAC and ATR.
Other tape types will follow? Really?
NAC made a brand-new type I tape a few years ago. It was horrible.
Then they launched an improved version aimed at the consumer market. It was abysmal.
Now they have something they call 'type II'. It is excruciatingly bad, and barely meets type II standards anyway.
Shall we make a bet about a forthcoming type IV?

The man knows his brands, the signature proves it.I am speechless!
As long as you are happy with Nak. I'm am thus Ecstatically Happy happy without any Nak. And just for you here. In utter shame and emberesment I removed the junk gear from my AK Signature. Some lesser junk I'm still not to afraid to mention. I really hope I'm not offending anybodyThe man knows his brands, the signature proves it.

. The brand new current Maxell cassette tape line everybody buys (type I and II); also horrible? Well it all works, runs and sounds fine on my decks; all being decks from the late 60 and 70's and early 80's decks. And it all sells like cupcakes these here mentioned tapes! Again a new type 2 tape presented and not even for sale as promo or demo or manufactered still, and 'them' critical 'well informed' tapeheads know already it s&cks. Wow! Sry, but my brain just doesn't work like that you see! That's my point! The new TASCAM 424 cassette was developed in close coordination with National Audio Company, Inc. of Springfield, MO, the world's largest manufacturer of quality cassette tape and the world's largest duplicator of recorded music cassettes.
New entries into tape manufacturing would be welcomed if they were releasing a quality product, which they are not. Nobody will ever release a new metal or chrome tape again; the money isn’t there, the production capabilities have been lost and aren’t coming back. Buy NOS if you must record to cassette with metal or chrome tapes.Read my post and refrain from silly assuming!
I don't want for myself, nor use any cassette tapes with 'reels'. Never have, never will. It's not imported for me neither. But that's not relevant. For me it is about good brand new cassette tapes manufactured and backed by real brands available to the real consumer. Its a promo release, conventional cassette housing will follow and other tape types. This is Limited Edition only. Tascam always had once in a while the fancy R2R reel look cassettes. And they were top notch. And never more than max 60 min. But this all means. Yet another brand new cassette tape line available by serious tape and tape deck (Tascam) brands. And you really think Tascam would choosen to, or have allowed manufacturing for them, sold by them selves, and or sold with there brand name on it, cassette tapes; when like you say: "its 'just crap"?
Brand new type II cassette tapes. Us, being any other cassette tape 'consumer' and 'music artists, retail and publishers and cassette deck manufacturers alike; are definitely not complaining.
Having said that; now I do want one of these fancy R2R look Tascam cassette tapes for myself afterall![]()
Bummer. They certainly look the part, too bad they can’t back it up :CA musician friend has. They don't perform very well in a PortaStudio either.

Talking Portastudios, I’m a TDK SA 60 man as well, can’t beat ‘em with a stick. Still cheap and plentiful at yard sales and thrifts, though I know they’ll run out sooner than later… I recently stumbled upon a pile of Sony CD-ITs in sizes 60 and 74, look to be from around ‘94 to ‘95, not a bad tape at all. May want to hip your friend to those, never hurts to have good tape stock on hand. Got some 90’s in the pile as well, but those are a Porta-no-no. I forget why, I just remember the manual said “hey, don’t.” ![]()
