Just a thought, but the Capstan motor assembly has 2 oil ports, 1 one the front and 1 on the back. There is packing inside for bearing lubrication.
It is suggested that the capstan motor be run enough to warm it up, which makes it easier for the packing to absorb the oil. It is recommended that 1/2 to 1 cc of fine machine oil be added to each oil port.
Then add a drop or 2 of oil to the base of the capstan shaft. Let it set for a while and then wipe away any remaining oil.

), but it looks like the suggested Digikey replacement is no longer in stock. Is there another that would work? Mine was in the C207 position on a board above the right reel motor.
