Teac X7R Auto Reverse function

Glad to hear that you found the answer. I guess the next step is to verify that the auto-reverse system is working as it should. The sensing post is supposed to have insulators that keep it from contacting the grounded assembly that supports it. The mechanical detail is shown in Exploded View 7 on page 28 of the service manual and the insulating post (Ref. No. 7-7) and insulating washer (Ref. No. 7-8) are shown in the parts list on the following page. It appears that someone worked on this previously and improperly assembled the inertia roller. Hope all is back to normal now!

Agrre with your assessment as that is all it can be and yes, fully functional !
 
I spent a while yesterday evening confusing myself with an X-7R's auto-reverse behavior.

I may have missed it in the documentation and the words of respected member dhnash are perfectly correct in terms of the timer switches - the auto-reverse switch does indeed have no effect when either Timer switch is IN, however the X-7R on my bench the auto-reverse actually works in response to foil (or screwdriver) completing the circuit. Playing forward, it reverses, regardless of the position of the three position switch. It doesn't change direction again on the counter hitting zero.

I didn't expect auto-reverse to work at all with the timers IN, so spent some time going through the schematic and scratching my head. After a while I decide it was useful undocumented functionality and to document my finding here as the deck operated as described with timers OUT.
