Technics SL-10. Hookup issues

My bedroom headphone system: woo audio wa6se amp. It has 1 input, so I use a switchbox so I can have cd, bluesound, and MM phono with a phono stage.
I want to switch in an SL10 with MC cartridge. The SL10 has a built in phono amp. So...... I have a Vincent Phono8. I need a ground like I had with the MM setup. How can I hook this up?

Is there a switch on the SL-10 where you don't have to use the built-in phono preamp? If there is, switch that off. Plug the SL-10 into the Vincent Phono 8 MC input. Vincent Phono 8 output into switch box input. Ground the SL-10 to the Vincent.
 
I believe the MM setting on the turntable actually disengages the built-in preamp altogether, which is only needed for MC carts on that deck. If I'm not mistaken, using an MM cart in the MM switch position outputs a standard phono signal that can go into any phono preamp like normal. Basically, there is no built-in phono preamp on-board for MM carts.

If you are using an MC cart with the turntable, switch it into the MC position and it should output a line-level signal that does not require any additional phono stage. You should then be able to plug the turntable into any available line-level or aux input on your switch box.

It's been years since I've used the SL-10, so if I'm mistaken I'm sorry but that's my recollection.

You can ground the SL-10 to the metal case of the amp, if necessary. You may not find it necessary using the MC preamp.

This should all be covered in the manual, which you can get for free from Vinyl Engine.

The manual only shows the MM and MC switch. I will try putting it in MM and going to the Vincent in MC and see what happens. That gives me the ground.
 
The question I had was for the other side of the ground hookup . if I can use the MM switch on the table, to the ground hookup on the Vincent set in MC mode I should be ok.
 
OP, why are you so concerned about the ground? Engage the MC switch with your MC cart and run the turntable’s output into any available input on your switcher.

If you get no ground him, which you may not, then you don’t need to worry about a ground wire.

Oftentimes the ground wire isn’t needed unless it becomes necessary to eliminate a groundhum.

You are mistaken there. The integrated MC stage of the SL-10 is just an "MC pre-pre" - i.e., an extra gain stage, that one could regard as an active equivalent to a (passive) SUT. It's not a complete MC phono stage, that would deliver a line-level signal - instead, it merely amplifies the output of a low output MC to roundabout MM output level. So your suggestion wouldn't work, because even with the integrated pre-pre engaged the output signal still has to go through an MM phono stage to provide the rest of the required gain as well as RIAA (re-)equalisation.

The MC part of the SL-10 is a very nice Step Up Transformer designed for the Technics EPS-310MC moving-coil cartridge which was also designed for the SL-10. When not pushed it's just a standard MM output. All and all a wonderful TT.
 
Well, like I said it has been many years since I used one of these. I could have sworn it boosted the MC to line level, but it’s certainly not the first time I’ve been wrong. Won’t be the last, I’m sure!

As others have stated, if you have no ground hum then you have nothing to worry about and nothing "crucial" to deal with. I have a SL10 and use the provided ground built into the OEM RCA's. Since the SL-10 has the preamp for either MM or MC dump the Vincent from the equation and plug the table into the same spot on the switch box where the Vincent was. If the SL-10 needs to be grounded do so to the amp.
