Technics SL-10. Hookup issues

I skimmed over mostly everything that’s been stated above. I had the exact same issue with my unit and the humming is coming from the RCA and ground wire out the back. I had to make my own wire hookup. I used some extremely narrow RCA and a bare RCA centre post which I created by dissecting a RCA jack. I then soldered the RCA centre post to my ground wire and soldered a spade on the amp end. Currently running a MM and of course the button on my turntable is set at MM. My turntable is now hum free even at extremely high volume.

Can I use a Moving Coil Cartridge and utilize the SL 10 Preamp and just run a cable to a source input on my Mac Preamp? . . . or do I still need to use the phono preamp on my Mac preamp for it to function properly?

what if i want to run an induced magnet aka MI or moving iron cartridge instead of an MM cartridge. will the turntable explode? oh, and i don't own or have ever owned an sl-10 turntable--i'm asking for a friend.

You'll have to plug it into the phono input of your preamp.

Simply put, the SL-10 is like any other TT - it's meant to be plugged into a phono stage, either internal or external - then
1- if using an MM cartridge, the button on the back should be left un-pressed (cart signal bypasses the gain stage straight into the phono stage, be it internal to your amplifier or external), or
2- if using an MC cartridge, you can either (i) use the gain stage (button pressed) with TT plugged to any MM phono input, or (ii) use the MM position of the gain stage (bypass) (button pressed) with TT plugged into an external MC preamp.
It's THAT simple.

Couldn't get it any clearer than that thanks, the manual should state that. I don't have a MC cartridge at this point and I am tossing around the idea of getting an inexpensive one if I can find one to get my feet wet.

Also, finding an inexpensive p mount MC cartridge might be a bit of a challenge. There's the Technics 310MC, variations on the AT312, and I think a Sony, and...

Thanks, I kind of figured out be out of luck trying to find a low cost MC for the SL 10 but it's not a problem I do have the original EPC P205Cmk3 MM that came with my SL15.

And Cactus Bob, a famous retipper posted photos and a description of the job he did on a EPC P205Cmk2 MM, on Instagram. Someone asked him how this one compares to the 310MC, and the retipper said they sound undistiguinshable from each other - to his ears at least. In fact, the EPC P205 variants are said to be among the best MM carts ever made.

Cool good to know . . . I had the same guy perhaps a former ak member retip my DL160 for my Denon TT last year and thought about the P205 done.
