Technics SL-1200 series as an audiophile turntable?

Did a rewire, wasn't hard as I heard just think your steps out. These tables are made mechanically, as opposed to looks. They are made to have parts replacable, since dj's would work them hard.
I added the jack plate and wired directly to it. also, get the KAB, dampner trough. It's expensive, but worth it. Bass is all good.

Nice work and certainly a challenge but if you know what you are doing then the rewards are many.

I was wondering if anyone has bought from Pro Advantage how are they??

i placed my order with based on pretty overwhelming positive reviews from bizrate and other places. as soon as my 1200 comes in, i'll report everything (packing, speed, etc.). the price is $30 cheaper than amazon, and considering that i didn't see many negatives from those who ordered here, i think this place will be reliable. from what i gathered, they seem pretty similar to newegg

I have to sleep on it as I have been so chicken to buy one thinking it will just be another TT here that sounds great. I don't know...

What cartridge are you getting?

I know it. I have been like this for weeks deciding on this purchase. I want one that's for sure but do I really need it? I am so close!

Do you need a widescreen color tv with a flat panel and cable? Or will a snowy 12" Zenith with tin-foiled rabbit ears be okay?

Do you need lobster and prime rib for dinner? Or will mac and cheese and a slice of fried bologna do?

Do you need a glass of Glenlivet single malt, or will a Pabst blue ribbon be enough?

Do you need a trio of sexy, hedonistic, wonton red-headed ladies in your bed? Or will toothless Gerta with the gout from up the street suffice?

You are so right there Happy Easter guy. I guess it boils down to when I use it will I notice a big difference over my ST-7 and the Shure V-15 or will it be an equal? Thats fine with me. I had originally wanted to just get a NEW table and I am debating it now only because I want to be thrilled with another level of sound quality, not similar. My ST-7 and V-15 III has its own sound. Its a bit meek in output but still its very clear with good dimensional sound just everywhere. The ELAC and it's 97xE also sound very nice. Its a true sound not quite as lively and room filling but nonetheless very accurate. Vocals and piano sound like they are in the room. Now if I get the 1200 and fit it with a 97xE how will it compare? These are the things I am pondering plus just the beautiful new hardware. The ST-7 is 31 years old now and needs to come out of rotation and be serviced by me.
 
My advice is grab the table at that price- the busted ones you typically see on craigslist are $200 destroyed, to $300-$400 used in various shapes.

Later on, move up the cartridge food chain. For $300-$400 with smart shopping, you can get into LOMC territory.

You can later add a KAB outboard power supply, fluid damper, and footers- the footers screw I'm in 30 seconds, the fluid damper uses two set screws and goes on in two minutes, and the power supply mod takes a supposed 5 minutes.

Resale on the technics if you don't like it (and before you do any mods) will get you no less than $300 if not maybe make a profit.

I just acuired a sl1500 full manual operation only turntable in mint cond. could any one tell me what or where in the food chain this model is compared to the 1200. it sure looks close, I picked it up for 15.00 at a antique store. plays awesome just need to know more about, it seems very heavy as to the other technics Ive handled in the past.
 
Jeff- depends if it's an "original" or if it's a MK II.

But either way it's basically 90% a 1200, give or take a bit.
