I have not listened to any of the two, but I would not expect them to have a different timbre being similar level units and made at about the same time. The 8080 is perhaps a bit more robust with twin transformers and a more substantial power supply. It also offers a pre-out/main-in set of connectors that can be very handy if you ever want to connect a sound processor (equalizer, etc). Also offers capacitance and impedance phono load selection (hi/low) as was the fad in the day.
The 8077 offers MM/MC phono inputs that may be of relevance if you are into turntables and into MC carts. The VF power display is just a gimmick that looks impressive to some and perhaps has a more versatile source management arrangement, in that you may be able to listen to a tape or CD and record an LP to a tape.
Of the two (if I could not get both) I would choose the SU-8080 because it's heavier (better power supply).
To make my response more technically sound,
The 8080 is rated for 2x72WRMS @ 8ohm and 2X90WRMS @ 4ohm
The 8077 is rated for 2x60WRMS @ 8ohm and 2x65WRMS @ 40hm (shows a power supply limitation).
Now, while the difference between 60, 70 and 90 watts is not much, the 8080 will be able to drive speakers much better and cleaner at higher volumes.

I've been using a SU-8080 for a couple of months now and I'm really loving it.
I don't know what you have for speakers but mine sound very good with 8 ohm/120 watt speakers.
The tone controls are excellent but the amp also sounds good with tone control defeated.
The loudness button sounds bloated at any volume and does not get used.
The phono slections are the real jem here and sound better than any stand alone pre amp I've ever owned. Just rich and full sounding.
There is a capacitance switch that adds around 150pf and gets used with one of my carts.
My complaints, there is an impedance button for carts that need 27kohms(?).
What, for crystal cartridges? This amp came out in 1979.
I would much rather have a button for MC carts.
The speaker connectors are a little unusual but they work.
I would prefer banana clip outputs instead.
The amp is an unusual color of brown, not black or gray, and doesn't match anything I own.
Not a big deal for me.

The SU-8077 is a nice sounding amplifier. I use mine in source direct DC mode (way ahead of its time in 1980) which bypasses the tone control section. Its a tad brighter/cleaner than my Marantz 2265 which is fine by me depending on the source. I use the MM & MC feature a lot as I have a table with each. I did install quite a few Nichicon Fine Gold caps a few years ago and did give it a slightly warmer sound than before. It matches great with the ST-8077 tuner, which is a real sleeper. A 4-gang tuner! with active quartz lock pulls stations like "jack the bear", has nice tone and sounds much better than the tuner on my Marantz. The last of the great Technics integrated amps.
