Tesla Truck revealed and it may be a joke.

Sure. Tesla has $60Billion in market capital, while GM has $50B and Ford has $35B. Kind of hard to fathom beings Ford and GM have 3000+ dealers and service centers, paid for factories and tons of assets. F and GM sell 10+ million cars a year while Tesla sold 245,000 units last year. And Tesla has never made a yearly profit since its inception. Its a huge head scratcher to me, kind of like buying a $350k home for $800k just incase it may be worth that much in 7 years.

Tesla isn't a Wework unicorn but at some point, they need to make money. So far, they have survived on equity and bond sales. And they get billions in carbon credit sales and government subsidies. Given this, Elon rolls out some pie in the sky project every year as a PR stunt. A few years ago, it was solar roof tiles. And then there was the Tesla semi and the Tesla that got launched into space. Elon is building a transportation tube under L.A. which looks like it will be a waste. Now we have a truck with armor glass or whatever Elon is calling it. It's great PR but at some point, Tesla needs to stand on its own.

Tesla stock is trading at over 12x book value so the house example would be more like paying $4.3M for the hypothetical $350K house. And were it not for the credits and subsidies related to the EV industry, it would be sunk.

I for one condemn a rigged playing field particularly when motivated by sentiments which I would characterize as little more than modish and fashionable.

I am also for free market and no regulatory distortion. EV should simply be another consumer choice just like hybrid and petro. I've participated in discussions where it is claimed that GM and Ford received massive subsidies in the form of the highway system. Teslas use the same road system so this is a non-starter. During the great recession, GM got a bailout which has since been re-paid at a profit to the government. Ford did not take a bailout.

Agree with all the above but according to multiple sources, the government took a $11B loss on the GM bailout.

Yes that highway argument is insipid.

I think a good entry in to the pickup market should be geared to delivery and contractors, An extra cab, not four door, bust just big enough to throw some crap behind the seats an 8 foot bed so plenty of room underneath for batteries. Your local contactor isn't driving hundreds of miles a day and would just be topping it up every evening, and keep it basic so its cheaper than a gas model.

All EV manufacturers get rebates which diminish with sales volume until they no longer exist (i believe Tesla no longer is granted them).
Tesla also left their patents open to competitive manufacturers so their R and D paved the way a bit. Also the fact that they took sales away from others, gave other makes the knowledge that there is a market for these. I don't have a Tesla and i don't see one in my near future. I also don't have or plan to but Tesla stock.
I am happy that the technology is being developed. I was in another AK member's 3 and i was impressed. I think there's something there.

Still say about the best looking trucks made in most of OUR lifetimes-or slightly before- were the "Advance Design" series of Chevrolets & GMCs from mid 1947-mid 1955. There was hardly a single line out of place on these vehicles, they "Flowed" weren't jarring to yr eyes in the least, they just looked GREAT from virtually every angle. They also didn't look like they were "Designed", they weren't all "Contrived" looking, as Der Tesla so obviously, aggressively IS.
