How many of you are still looking for that rare/obscure vintage vinyl Lp for your collection that you just gotta have but cannot seem to find? Ok maybe you can find it but can't really afford to purchase it on vinyl. Do you settle for it on CD and what if it's not been reissued on CD ? Oh yea, what is that damn vinyl Lp you can't seem to get your hands on ? :no: Anybody ?

That's easy, "Harpo in Hi-Fi." I have a scratched mono copy but I want the gorgeous-sounding Stereo version. In 30 years of looking I saw it just once in a used vinyl store at a ridiculously high price. Yes I know it's on CD with "..at work", but...
 
Tom Jans - Champion, 1982. I have all his albums except for this one. Über rare and for a longest time most "experts" and collectors could only speculate on it's existence. Apparently it does, recently the songs have been uploaded to one of those file sharing sites. I've never seen this album in 20+ years of searching.

I think I have a copy of this record. I will have to dig around and see. I picked it up at an estate sale.
 
Yes, but not because it is a "collector´s item" (few people may know about it), but rather because it is the best performance of a work I love, the Pampeana # 3 of Ginastera: it is an LP that besides the Pampeana also contains Caamaño´s Sinfonietta ,performed by the National Orchestra of Argentina conducted by Victor Tevah, Angel (Argentina) SLPA-11204 (late 60´s-early 70´s) . Small market, I guess, prevented this great recording for being reissued on CD.

Mazzy Star's "So Tonight That I Might See." Excellent album that was released right around the time that vinyl sales fell through the floor. Brings stupid money on eBay. I've had my CD since 1994 or so, but I've heard that the vinyl is excellent.

It was a good-selling record, I think owners hang on to it because of the cachet of Harpo Marx, and it's probably grabbed quickly from Goodwill racks, which is where I found my mono copy.

I just ordered the OOP CD, which has gone up in availabilty and down in price since the previous times I've searched, but I doubt the CD approaches the vinyl in sound quality.
 
I would love to have ANY of the Japanese soundtracks to the Lupin III movies. Lupin III is the star of dozens of animated feature films...he is kinda like a mix of James Bond, Indiana Jones, and Jerry Lewis. Anyway, many of these films had a vinyl soundtrack LP. They are available on the auction sites but they are always expensive and in Japan!
 
Here's one sucker I can occaisonally find but can't aff..... , ok, I won't pay the goin' price for..... On the Impulse Label : "BILL PLUMMER & The COSMIC BROTHERHOOD" Lp. Not on CD or re-issued on vinyl either but the minute I fork out top $ for an original it will show up re-issued on vinyl...Hmm? Maybe I could trade a vintage audio piece for a copy?
 
I know the feeling of looking for an album and thinking it will alude you but I found mine. I always thought that when i found it it would cost an arm and a leg but lo and behold I found two copies still sealed @ Ameoba records Hollywood @ 15 a piece. After thirtiy years i found Master Apprentice/Master Apprentice.

It is the greatest RCA Living Stereo, and it had only one lacquer cut for each side, maybe 2000-3000 copies made.

The plum Vic reissue also was very short-lived, it seems to be even harder to find than the original. Its sound is good, but it is somewhat dark and compressed compared to the original.

The Classic reissue sounds completely different, and is not a satisfactory substitute. The strings are grossly inferior to the original, and a lot of the microdynamics are lost.

. . . are you talking about the 12" vinyl single or the actual LP it's on, "So Tonight That I might See"? If it's the full album then I know how you feel! That record has been one of my sought after treasures for years now. But! They are re-releasing Mazzy Stars first LP called "She Hangs Brightly". Pre-ordered mine on Amazon for $16.99 for a "as of right now" release date of 12/08/09. I think the reason they are doing this is because Hope Sandoval has said that a new "Mazzy Star" record is just about completed, but with no release date as of yet. So I think - I HOPE - that this bodes well for the Vinyl re-releases of "So Tonight . . ." and the incredible third album, "Among My Swan". There's nothing much better than playing Mazzy Star on a dark and rainy day or a hot and humid night after a little Mother Nature. :beatnik:

But my all time sought after LP has to be T.P./Heartbreakers "She's the one" from 1996. Perhaps THE most rocking Heartbreakers record of all time and certainly since their first two records. It was released on Vinyl but . . . . . I CAN NEVER EVER FIND IT!!!!!!!!! :no::sigh: :smoke:

Your in luck ! ePay has 13 or 14 listings for : VANILLA FUDGE - "THE BEAT GOES ON" The original Lp on Atco, (even first pressings). There's even a listing in supposedly in nice condition starting at just 0.28 cents with no bids yet. I picked my copy up about a year ago for about $2.00. It's one strange Lp. That's why I like it. Got em' all now.
