Any love for Boomboxes? If so post those pics!!
I bought mine for the radio/tuner, But I also enjoy listening to CDs on it when I go to sleep. Or when I'm just hanging out in my bedroom.

Tons of threads on boomboxes already but I'll play anyway. I've had more than a few outstanding models, currently only one.

The holy grail National RX-7000, one spin of the weighted tuning knob watching the needle float across the display you know you're in the presence of boombox excellence.


Som others past:

Realistic SCR-8, outstanding box that my brother took to the beach and I never saw it again.


Panasonic RX-5080 a real sleeper that will embarrass many larger boxes, really one of the best I've ever heard

That National is awesome. I'm guessing it has a phono stage built into it also? Maybe even aux speaker connections?
I remember the Realistic. It was no slouch.

No external speaker out but you can connect an outboard power amp heh heh heh.

My mistake, actually it does support external speakers and it's rated to 3ohms lol, must be a rather beefy amp.

Very cool. I wonder why 12v-15v power socket? Maybe to be used with a larger external battery pack for longer play time? I can't see a reason for it to be used with a wall wart. Maybe an adaptor to plug into the 12v cigarette lighter socket in a vehicle? Cool feature. That boom box is a pretty well thought out design.

Should be, I heard but can't confirm these were around $800 new. Now? $$$$

I used to have a Kubota generator with a 12V output, came in handy more than once at the end of the day of cranking the tunes (Rockford power) on the job site and the truck wouldn't start.

Take a piece of 12/2 Romex, wrap the conductors around the battery posts, jam the other ends to the 12V outlet, run the gen for about 10minutes and good to go lol. The generator could also have powered the box with the right adapter.

I've used a cigarette lighter option when I used this on the job site, yes I know sacrilege but it's never been in pristine condition since I purchased it, although all functions work and it looks great from 10' away lol.

I used to have A JVC RC 838, it had a very nice SW tuner, under the right atmospheric conditions it could pull in stations from just about anywhere. Unfortunately, it was stolen out of my truck years ago. I've been looking for one since, but so far I haven't found one that's reasonably priced.

This is my third Boombox. The first was in a metal Craftsman Toolbox with power amp and equalizer. A car stereo magazine did a short article on that unit.

I need to buy one (our third!) for the kitchen counter...any suggestions? Been through mid price Sony's, CD players all failed...

Only one I still have is a Grundig. You can calibrate the tuner with 5 controls on the back. Only boom box I ever saw/owned that had this feature
