Ah yes, that would indeed be "rare"......Mine is an '84 with the BMW turbo diesel. Very few people wanted a diesel car in 1984.

I see MGB Gt's here occasionally, but never with the BOP/ Rover 215. I did read a magazine article years ago in which the subject was an MGB with this engine swap, and a Jaguar independent rear suspension. It would be a fun combo.Pulled the car out during a nice warm spell in March. Then it turned cold and VERY windy with storm alerts so I pulled her BACK into the rental space, just in case.
Then the club had their annual spring run down the George Wash Parkway to Mount Vernon, with a picnic lunch afterwards!
Club photog documented the ride with this video -
For the picnic, I wound up parking next to a white TR7 coup, and a very rare bird - an MGB/GT with the Rover 3.5l V8 like our TR8 has - -
That BGT was never a regular US import, this one was right hand drive!

There was another TR8 at the other end of the lot ... and a LOT of TR6s, Spitfires and such ...

Most have a kinda funky carb/manifold setup compared to the Eldelbrock/Holly 4bbl TR8 was modded with.

There are a LOT of aftermarket upgrades for the BOP/Rover Aluminum V8,The first pic looks like a kludged together adaptor to get side draft carbs to work on a down draft manifold. Can't see under the air cleaner on the second.

that 2nd MG setup looks more like the downdraft Holly 4bbl/Edelbrock manifold (Erson cam) setup Woody Cooper installed on our TR8 ...
Yes, there are a bunch of upgrades for this motor. And if GordonW is correct, and I'm inclined to think he is, they are sorely needed. That dogleg in the intake manifold runners will do nothing but kill airflow, and those little filters look pretty restrictive as well. If hood clearance was that much of an issue, they would have been better off re-working the motor mounts to lower the engine, or just putting a bubble in the hood as in the MGC. Or a pancake air cleaner like the red car has. A little 390 Holley on an Edelbrock or Offenhauser manifold should be superb, and I think a little lower than that setup for SU carbs.I think that's stock on the MGB-V8. Setting them all the way back on the engine like that. may well be the only way to get SU carbs to fit under the hood of an MGB.
Regards,
Gordon.

I guess.a bit more convoluted than the Holley 4bbl.
I'd wonder how often those carbs need molesting to keep them on task. I'd have to vote for the holley carb setup. Heck, even a Motorcraft 2100 2- barrel would be better than those little Strombergs, but that would scuttle concours eligibility. One of the folks in the Triumph club still has the factory twin Stromberg setup on his 3.5l TR8 ...
