Don't Eat The Worm...
Hey all, It is a new year and this thread was pretty successful last year so I thought I would found an new one for 2009. Anyone interested go ahead and check in periodically and hopefully we can keep each other motivated beyond just January's New Year Resolutions.

I'll start it off,

Current weight- 231 lbs ~19% bodyfat

Goal weight- 205 lbs or ~12% bodyfat in April, after that it will be maintenance!

I'll wish you luck in achieving your goal.:thmbsp: For me I'll just say I'll try to take one day at a time and keep calories, fat, sugar, and sodium to a minimum one meal at a time without thinking about specific time frame goals.

My body fat hovers around 9.7%. I've been trying to get down to about 5% for the last two years. At my age it's a pain in the ass, I like to eat to much. Interesting though... after all that holiday feasting I didn't gain any weight.

Body fat @ 9.7%? D@mn you!:D

Didn't gain any weight after holiday feasting? You just weren't trying.:D

I'm not losing this year. I'm gaining! After getting called skawny at 162 I want to add 15 pounds of muscle and improve my body fat %. I'm not sure what my bf% is but I am told roughly 12%. Good luck to everyone and my biggest tip TURN OFF THE TV! Too many food advertisements.

Hello.....from Jabba the Hut

Serious weight problem here!
I weighted 115 pounds in the US Army (1974).
I'm (groan) 205 pounds now.
As I've gotten older.....it has gotten way harder.....to shed the weight.
Severe arthritis in both knees and right shoulder......hasn't helped any.
Taking the two dogs for a long walk, twice a day.....is about the extent of my weight loss program.
ANY helpful suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!

THANKS!!
Steve :thumbsdn: :tears:

Yeah Muelster, I plan on doing that, along with cutting out the daily BLT, or Bisquits and gravy, and pizza, and burgers.. Eating better is what I really need to work on.. I just feel like crap too often from eating everything wrong..

Where are you guys getting these figures from? Are they BMIs? I kind of doubt it as the calculator I found online indicates anything less than 18.5 as underweight and comes up with a 14.3 for someone 5"10 weighing a paltry 100 lbs???

Our WII Fit has me at about 195 with a BMI of 28-29 which is borderline obese for my 5' 9" frame, so it looks like I need to cut back on the junk and start moving more. 30# would be an appropriate goal. I picked up about 10# since Thanksgiving, so now I have to work off all those yummy cookies, egg nogs, turkeys and prime ribs...
The good news is that I found out that I now qualify as a Senior (hooray :thumbsdn: ) at our local Community Center, so I can use the Exercise Room and Pool, steam and sauna for a meager $2/day, a buck on Fridays.

Somehow and someway I blew it this past year. My intention was to lose 30# and all I did was fluctuate from 210# to 218#. :(
I walk three miles a day, don't drink sodas (sugars) and rarely eat bread. Apparently I have the metabolic rate of a sloth.

Put me down as well. I'm 5'10", and although I hold weight proportinately so that I never look as heavy as I really am, I'm heavy. I am up to 275 and I really need to be down around 200 or less.

So for 2009, 75 lbs is the goal. 6.25 pounds a month will get me there by 2010.

I'm in!!

I am finally going to take this seriously, before real health concerns develop. I'm almost 6'-3", and 329 lbs. I'm tired of not fitting into airline seats comfortably, being unable to buckle in on my favorite roller coasters, wearing dark colored, over sized shirts to hide my man boobs (which really doesn't work)!

My goal is to weigh 225 or less, with improved muscle definition. Aerobics and light weight training are my two new best friends.

I'll even take some "now" and "progress" pics to post here, and any and all advice, help, support will be GREATLY appreciated!!

Jimmy

Put me down again...

Went from 273 at the end of the summer to 308 yesterday on the scale....

Onepixel, you are either naturally lean, or work very hard to keep your body fat % under 10. 5% is almost unhealthy. When I was rowing and trying to be a lightweight, I got down to 6% and there wasn't much left of me, I weighed 178 pounds, dropped to there from 200 in about a month and a half.

Now I'm about 202 and pretty solid. I recently dropped about 6 pounds. My temporary goal is 190. I've begun training for a triathlon this summer, so my cardio has really stepped up, which has helped.

I wish everyone good luck, stay motivated and make sure to do it the healthy way too!

That's a very high goal! I'm 41, and I play by the hardline rules when it comes to eating, and I work out 4 days/week. I had mine measured a couple weeks ago, and it's 5.3:banana: . My wife is annoyed because she's in excellent shape too, and hers is (Well, I better not publish it on the Internet if I know what's good for me), but you'd think that the way she takes care of her health, it would be lower than mine. She's a blackbelt, and also was a motocross stunt girl in the 90s.

It wasn't easy at all, but when I turned 40, I decided it's now or never. I've been in decent shape for the past 20 years, but never where I wanted to be until now. When you hit 6% or so, you'll have veins popping out everywhere; even the abs! The self esteem escalates too, when you put this much work into something and you get the results. It's 100% worth the hard work!

Woman naturally have a higher body fat % than men.

It really does feel great when you can see/feel results, and especially when you meet a goal. Congrats on reaching yours!

I kinda work at it, but not very hard. I enjoy getting out and doing stuff, that and sensible, healthy eating is all it takes. Really! Just do it consistently.

Last year I turned 50. Couple of days ago a 30ish guy at the climbing gym ask me how old I was. He thought I was around 35. It's even nicer when the younger women think so.

Your body and mind is the greatest piecs of gear that you have. Take good care of them and it will take good care of you.

Don't "work out" go out and "play!" Do outdoor or physical activities that are fun and you won't stop.

Weighed myself on NYD and came in at 265, +5lbs since Halloween. Pretty much have weighed @ 260 for the last dozen years, but have been as high as 283. Turning 50 this year and I need to lose some weight. I would be happy with losing 16 lbs just to get down to a 240 handle, should be able to lose 1 1/2 lbs a month. Going to stick with the 3 AFD's a week, (alcohol free days), and be more active. Losing the weight should help with the long term health and shave a few strokes off my golf handicap. Now THERE is a motivational factor,:D that and the new clothes hanging in the closet I can't fit into.:sigh:

There are several ways to loose weight, but they all boil down to the same thing in the end, Exercise and Nutrition. While I am not a personal trainer nor a nutritionist I have found what works for me is lots of "natural" foods, not refined flours or sugars. (Bread is right out!) stick with meats, vegetables, nuts and small servings of fruit. Anything to up your activity level helps too, as OnePixel suggested get out and find an active hobby! Play golf, take up climbing, go for walks with your dog. Little stuff helps also, park in the farthest spot from the store/work, take the stairs instead of the elevator, anything you can do to burn off a few extra calories.

A really good trainer once told me "Fitness is 10% exercise and 90% nutrition. "

Good luck to everyone in your goals, it sounds like AK has a pretty good group for support here! :thmbsp:
