The Hunt For Red October

Way back when this was in theaters, I had a fun experience with it. I was working in a residential drug and alcohol abuse facility for teenagers (13-18) and we took them to a movie once in a while -- which was difficult as it had to be drug and alcohol use and sex free.

The movie we planned to see (and I forget what it was, probably some Disney kids movie) was sold out, and we were standing there with 18 disappointed kids. I'd just seen "Hunt for Red October" and suggested we see that since other than the killing of the KGB officer is free of violence, sex, or drug use of any kind.

Needless to say the kids, especially the girls, weren't too pleased but we all went in and sat down. Four minutes in the kids were all mesmerized, didn't hear a peep out of the for the whole movie - - for that particular bunch, a minor miracle.

Connery was perfect in that role.

Hpefully did the kids some good too.

Hated it the first time I saw it.

Several years later I watched it again and couldn't figure out why I hated it the first time.

Love Sean. “I’ll take ‘The Rapist’ for $200, Alex.”

But a friend of mine, a retired USN submariner/Commander; and my brother, a former Army intelligence officer, ruined that movie for me. This is often the case when experts weigh in. Of course, I’m sure we’ve all pointed out the stereo playing in a movie—with absolutely no patch or electrical cords.

^ I tend to do this with cars. You see something set in a given year, then see a car that is newer than that year. Its really annoying to other people when you can look at a specific model that did exist in that year, but you know the one on screen is 2 years newer because of that grille or this piece of trim or whatever other stupid detail that most people don't care about.

I don’t care about that, usually because I am not interested in that particular model. However, what I loathe is hearing someone shifting a manual gearbox, but the interior shot is of an autotragic.

Red October is one of those movies that, if I come across it while surfing through the channels, I have stop and watch the rest of it.

oh you don't like those transmissions that seem to be shifting every time the camera angle changes?
