That was my first thought when I saw the shape, but I don't think any of the 501's had those wood slats.

There is another company that did speakers like that that I saw locally about a year ago, I'll be damned if I can remember the brand though, not to well known and you could order them with a few different tops. Cushion top, Marble,and wood of some sort....

Not certain, but they look a lot alike.

Empire Cavaliers. They have a 10" woofer and a very robust looking cone tweeter. They did come with optional cushions. I had a pair and they sounded surprisingly good given their age. Well worth the price they're asking.

Nope. Count the slots in the sides.

The RS one and the pic on CL both have 14 per side. Those Empires have quite a few more.
