The Mid-Century/Danish thread

Garage sale Herman Miller

Stopped at a GS today. The guy was a Vietnam navy vet. Real nice guy. Had a Panasonic R2R he had bought overseas. Asking $75 for it. Too much for me. Bought a couple LPs and a 45rpm "Hey Little Cobra".

On the way out I saw this chair for $10. Got it for $5.

Great deal! Once I finish painting, I am going to order the Modernica version the shell chair (with the rocker base) for our master.

Sigh, been looking for one of these for a while now.
I had a copy on a lounger Eiffel base, but the shell was badly cracked so I tossed the shell.
been looking for a replacement shell for months.

great score! it looks to be in excellent shape. looks to have all 4 gliders intact as well.
careful with those, the aluminum post in it gets brittle with age.

those chairs fetch a pretty penny on ebay.

Here you see a typical 60s scandinavian furniture, a sideboard, in Germany we say "Teewagen", because generally the tea service was brought into the living room with such a sideboard.

The wooden shells are very very light but extremely sturdy, as you can see. The grasp is made of leather.

The gear upon it is SABA.

The trays are made of wood? Very cool!

Ahh - tray is the correct word. Thanks. Yes, finest wood and extremely solid AND light.

On the backside you can read "gena Made in Sweden"

So I have a few HM chairs, some need a bit of restoration.

found a nice how to on restoration, and relocating the shock mounts, etc.

http://chairfag.com/?p=3

finding stuff here in canada is a bitch though.

JB weld doesnt exist here, neither does penetrol, it was very difficult finding fine thread 1/4" screws. just a bitch overall.

currently I have 3 shells,
one grey on a black eiffel base which I just cleaned up and gave a coat of paint,
one blue currently on a stacker base which will need the shock mounts relocated to fit standard bases,
and one on an H base that needs some light sanding on the edge which is rough in a few places from wear, the base is oxidized, and its missing a glider.

I also have an aluminum group base that the grey shell came off of, which will eventually get the grey shell back once I have relocated the shockmounts on the blue shell.

PITA though.

Exactly mid-century. And somehow more furniture than gear, isent it?

1950 Bang&Olufsen Jet 506 K, XXX-rare, Denmark

My camera cant show the wonderful color of the wood correctly, dammned.

In reality it is somewhere in between...

Heres some awesome finds from today, only problem is living room is to small :tears: This Is a cool chair, made by Gerard Van Den Berg in Holland, can't find out more about and its Rosewood 60$ Then I upgraded coffee tables to this cool Marble one from Italy and there are some sweet Robert Maxwell Coasters on it. 45$ for those two. I want the couch but it was as big as mine and I want to down size. Don't mind the bird feathers on the ground, damn parakeets lose enough feathers to make a down comforter :D

JB Weld is readily available in the automotive adhesives section at all Canadian Tire stores.

Most automotive parts suppliers will also have it in stock.

I believe I have seen it with adhesives at Lowes, and Home Depot as well.

Can someone identify this coffee table?

I was told it has a man's designer name but she could not remember it....

Thanks.........

Yeah, not here in Qwebeck.

I did find a good 2 part epoxy that will do.
I also found penetrol at a dedicated paint store.
no standard big chain hardware store carried it either.

Four Hans Brattrud Hove Møbler mid century modern Scandia Chairs. They are rosewood and chromed steel. This is a picture of the same chair I purchased (2); the chairs pictured are not owned by me.

At my local GW today spotted two side tables. Looked very simple, flipped them over Winchedon Furntiure Designed by Paul McCobb "the planner group". Nice little maple tables for $3 each.

This is a picture from the interent....mine need a little TLC
