The Mordaunt-Short Owners Thread

I am about to buy some Mordaunt Short MS25 bookshelves (not Ti just MS25) . Does anyone know anything about this particular speaker or this series?
Thanks

I have the ms35ti's. I absolutely love them. My music room is my garage, so in the winter I store them. I have heat in there but only when I'm in there so I dont want them subjected to those conditions. I use them in tandem with a pair of spectrum 208's. In the winter I've substituted boston acoustics, infinitys and cambers, and they dont make up for the mordaunts. It's almost time to bring them back out. Enjoy them!

I picked up a pair of pageant 2 speakers for £25 I love them and they fit in well with my vintage set up. They just had some scratches on the top but some light sanding and a new fresh coat of Danish oil they look good again

Yes I reckon they are worth $200 yes screwing the seller is a great idea , just think if you were the seller $200 is reasonable in other words offer close to it.

The only people who get screwed in private transactions are the ones who let it happen. When I bought mine I tried to talk him down. He didn't budge. He got his asking price.

Not everything in life needs to be the cheapest that's yes your right it's up to the buyer what he wants to pay.

Pretty much all Mordaunt Shorts sound pretty good but if they are from the 80's they might have those dreaded Elcaps in them but regardless the caps will need replacing . If your up to it and can do it changing out the probable bloody awful spring clips , beefing up the woofer wires and placing some bitumen lining on the sides tops and bottom works wonders too. Use polypropylene caps if you can afford them definitely on the tweeters . I don't know where your located for instance in Australia where I am that is about what they are worth plus about 30 % . Go for it I say

Just spent two hours of a lazy day (national holiday here in CH) listening to a pair of Mourdant Short MS20i's that I picked up at the (Lausanne) Salvation Army Store for ~US38. Forgotten on a top shelf at the store, I took a risk by buying without listening and brought them home for a cleaning and furniture polishing of the cases. I did install some nice isolation feet on these 22mm wide x 36mm high "bookshelf" speakers and they sound wonderful when paired with a vintage Nakamichi SR-2E receiver (minty-used for $110). [FLAC file PC source to FiiO BTA30 Pro (in DAC mode)]
I am quite surprised at the quality sound and build of these MS20i's, which cleaned up perfectly (they look new). Really love finding forgotten gems like this, especially at such a low price!

An upcoming auction lists these "Mid-Century Pageant" speakers. They don't look like the M-S Pageants I see online. Did I miss something or is this a coincidence? No affiliation, far from me, just curious.

They look like a Pageant 3, which is a later iteration. Probably sound great but for some reason I’m more inclined to want one of the earlier variants. None of that based on experience unfortunately, just what I’ve seen photos of.

Does any one have a circuit diagram for the Mordaunt Short MS55 Ti crossover - I cannot read some of the component ratings - from what I can see it is a three way crossover.

Also opinions on the tweeters, these speakers I have picked up for$100 sound pretty good (stored in dry garage for many years) - it was just the enclosures that were tatty as the plastic black ash was peeling away, and the stands were rusty. I wanted to re veneer but was just too hard getting what I wanted so I painted in Oil based gloss. And repainted the stands. Look pretty good.

I also have a pair of Festival 3's I have had from new. I need to work on these inc the crossover again as I am sure the caps are long dead in those. I remembered when I bought them I must have tested nigh on every speaker around at the time. I was living in Brighton at the time and annually there was a Hifi event on at I think it was the Ship hotel. Fantastic opportunity to try out stuff on what you could and could not afford. (Heard my first Quad Electrostatics there). And in my opinion the Festivals gave me the best of all worlds for me at that time. Unfortunately, all my moves around the world i somehow have lost the stands for them.
So anything on these speakers would be appreciated as I will tackle them next.
If anyone is interested I can post the pics of the speakers before and after clean up.
