The Most Rare Marantz

Upload your video to youtube, and then give us the link. As far as powering up, decide for yourself whether to use a DBT or Variac. But I don’t think there is any advantage to running it at idle for two days. Power it up, and if it plays, use it. Although, I wouldn’t peel the paint off the walls until you are sure it’s going to operate properly.

will try to do that with the video.

This is an investment piece. DO NOT open it. Just bury it in a closet somewhere and sell it someday for a fortune.

Stupid question. Was the 4400 wrapped up like it was used or unused?

That is weird that someone switched boxes.

Haha, too late! Glad I did though, because it was a 4400 in there! Looks to be in almost new condition. Was weird though. I really was expecting a 2325!

I think I’ll keep the 4400 for a while!

any good speaker pairings? Recommendations?
Found a pair of sp1515 locally for 200. Thoughts?

Ok, here are the videos of me becoming educated! For the record, I’m only a little sad I was wrong. I am grateful for the education.

Videos uploaded and links provided. Enjoy! It was a good education.

Here is the first time power on video. Does anyone know what the hum might have been?

Hum might have been audible AC ripple due to the two filter caps trying to reform. Usually folks variac a new old stock unit to bring the dormant caps up slowly so they “reform” more gracefully. Put a wire in the antenna jack and tune to an FM station. How does it sound? Are you getting output now without mains hum? If so, maybe the filter caps reformed after a couple of seconds and the hum went away as a result. But if you have no output at all now, perhaps a protection circuit was triggered?
