I'm pretty sure this will be easy for some folks.

Sadly the man behind this LP passed away last year.


EDIT: I didn't search the thread before posting this, it was posted at one time but I don't know if that matters. I'll keep it up.

2004 compilation.
Blues rock, classic rock. English
The songs and music was helped by lots of friends.
His debut ablum and 2nd came out in 1969. His 3rd album in 1970 was put it out with a bunch of friends in a couple days. It was alright.
This album wasn't just a best of, but an ultimate.

Lots of clues to nail it down, the picture itself was recognisable as well
 
Local Ottawa artist (at the time 1994) who moved to West coast. I can almost guarantee you have never heard of him, so here is the clue:
I was listening to this yesterday on a pair of Tannoy Albury SL-105

This guy is local to where I grew up, and there's a connection with the name of the artist above.
He is a family friend, and played with and taught my dad. He also played at my dad's service a few years ago.

Jazz. Early 80's. He plays a pretty unusual instrument in the world of Jazz. More often seen in classical music.
