The new X-Files

Ha, what a blast that the show was "Believed" to be in my home town, and it was a hoot as Moulder took Pot-Shots at the City of Philly as well as that nice jab on the 76ers who outright suck.

I took the flashbacks with William as their imagining of how things could have been if they had not given him up. Each scenario ends up in lose again anyway. Quite sad actually.

the one with 'Murray' from Flight of the Condors, where he a lizard man turned human by the bite of a werewolf was incredibly, unbelievably bad. and yeah, i know it was s'posed to be tongue in cheek and funny....but it failed miserably at even that. i simply could not believe what i was seeing. i fought off the urge to kill it minute by minute, because i wanted to see if somehow they'd pull it off in the end. and they didn't.

and then there was the most recent 'Trashman' episode. that thing was really, really weird, creepy and strange, in good, old fashioned X-files fashion. it made me think of Carter's other series from back when, Millenium, which i thought was an overlooked gem. anyone remember?

I've only seen the first episode (the rest are recorded). I liked it OK and see potential. But, what's the deal with Scully, Botox? Personality transplant? There's something strange about her persona.

Watched #1 & 2. The first was more X-File-ish IMO. All are or will be recorded and viewed.

A local drive through coffee kiosk had a comment about Mulder and Scully on their marquee. I'll see if it's still posted.

Yeah that one sucked hard.

She doesn't look anywhere near as attractive as in the original. And it's not just that she's "aging". I tried to watch another show of hers called "The Fallen" (I think). I got to maybe half way into the season before I had to stop. She's a completely different person in that show. She plays as a top detective and she pushes and gets what she wants via her power. I'm fine with women in power, but this show even had her do a "one night stand" and the guy tried to call her back and she completely dismissed him. It's not cool when guys do it either, so I see that as a character flaw for her in that show. She's just not a good actress in that show.

When I watched the new X-Files, it jogged my memory of how she was stiff in that show and I think it passed on into this show. So not just looks, but as you say, her persona has plummeted.

I am myself really enjoying the series again. I think out the 4 episodes there has been one dud so far IMO. Also pretty cool watching these again because I am much older now and I have a different take on the world now as I did back then. In the area I live they do a lot of shooting for the series and see them setup when I take my dog for walks

The only one I haven't liked was the trashman episode. I am interested to see what happens in the season finale. Lauren Ambrose from six feet under is in it. I wonder if they are preparing for her and a partner to become the new lead roles?

The difference between the old and new? The original stories were all perfectly true, where these are obvious fabrications.

Spoiler alert ... The gray men produced the new episodes as an insidious way of discouraging the series' still rabid followers. Their clever ploy is working ... we no longer want to believe ...

The one episode that REALLY "Did It" to me was "Home"... You remember, inbred hillbillies who rode around in an old Caddy, & "Wonderful. Wonderful" played all the time on the Cad's radio..

Wasn't that the one where the mother lived under the bed on a car repair dolly?

Yep. THAT episode, more than any of the others, had a "Ring" of truth to it. Had a friend who worked in the judiciary here locally, he said THAT sort of stuff happens a lot more frequently than people realize. Typically, it is a multi-generational thing, & happens in ALL strata of social classes. Even happens to people who ought to know better..

I agree with some of the Scully sentiment. The wife and I are most of the way through "The Fall", which is a Netflix original where Gillian Anderson is a detective chasing a serial killer. Honestly I think she does a great job in that role - but it is NOT Scully.

I loved the dream segments about what life would have been with a son. IMO a great dynamic added to the characters.

However, the interaction between Scully and Mulder just feels a bit cold to me

Ida know ... Mulder line dancing on shrooms was kinda kewl ... think of it as the Californication of the X Files ...
