The official AK golf thread

Most of the "favorites" are choking as of late.

Rory tosses his 3 iron in the water after errant shot. Geez, pro golfers are starting to act like pro football players!

Are you saying I act like some pro footballers?

I think I need to get a grip and turn over a new leaf. I feel a bit more ashamed than I usually do when I have a Rory like moment.

BTW, It got above 50 today. I heard my course hired a new Pro last week. I need to go out and introduce myself.

I bought a new driver a couple days ago, to go with my new putter.

Can't wait to get out there and tee it up!!!

Many years ago I f'd up a simple wedge shot and threw the club as hard as I could. It went right up into a tree and stayed there. Took a load of crap from my buddies for a long time after. I've never thrown a club again.

C'mon man what did ya get?

I regripped the new-to-me Ping Zing 2's tonight and have a tee time next Tuesday. Hope they play as well as they look.

What kind of putter are you using? My current one is a YES! Stacy center straight shaft mallet. It has a jumbo Salty cork grip. Great feeling putter maybe the best I've ever used even better than my trusty old SeeMore mallet. Really great on slightly off center hits. What's in your bag?

Just got an Odyssey 2ball to replace a Walmart grade Wilson putter also tried the Havoc 7 mallet on the putting surface in the store both putters worked about the same but the 2ball was 1/2 the price.

Looks like about 6 more weeks until the course will be open here.

The northeast has been encased in snow for the last 2 months, so golf is just a dream for now. we are getting some melting this week with the temperature getting into the 40's. I can't see playing until the middle of April at the earliest. I will be twitching watching the Masters.

after 40 years of golf wearing glasses this will be my first season after laser surgery.

Great! It's likely that I'll be having cataract surgery on both eyes before the season starts. Looking forward to actually seeing the ball in flight again!

I bought a Cleveland Classic XL Custom. My current driver is also a Cleveland Classic but the new one is adjustable. Funny because I used to dislike Cleveland clubs especially their Hi-Bore driver. Some friends had them and I hated the way they looked and sounded. I would try to hit them on occasion and thought they were terrible.

I played Taylor Made drivers after that. The first one I loved but the second one I couldn't keep in the fairway. The golf shop I use, and trust, suggested I try a Cleveland and I'm glad they did. I love my current model and only bought the new one because it was at a close out price and I wanted to be able to tinker with the adjustments. I always have the older one to fall back on.

That's probably way more information than you needed but you asked and there's still snow on the ground so all I can do golf wise is talk.

One more thing, if any of you guys are thinking about buying new clubs you might want to check out Hurricane Golf. The are located in DeKalb Il and have great prices and great service. I have no affiliation with them but they are good guys and have have competitive prices. They aren't a huge company but I like that. Check out their website at Hurricane golf.

Funny... last year I went from a TM R9 to a Cleveland Classic XL. I love it. Dependable and repeatable. No intentions of changing soon.

I got out for the first time this year this past Wednesday. It was great to get out there after what was a very snowy February here in Colorado. Cubdog and Bobcat, thanks for the tip on the Cleveland Classic XL. I'm wanting a new driver and would never have thought to even try a Cleveland - I will look into it.

I'm guessing the rocky soil expedites drainage? it's very wet here after our ~6" snow melt.

Our course opened today. Unfortunately, for me, my back is too sore to even think about playing. I honestly don't know if I'll be able to play much this year. Having a bad back really sucks! :sigh:

It does. My wife wants to play today so I'll go out with her and do what I can. Maybe just some pitching and putting, we'll see. It will be nice to just be outside in warm weather. What better place to enjoy the outdoors than a golf course.

I played 16 today (bypassed a couple of holes to get in front of a slower group), so now my back is sore. Forgot I need to stretch more as I get older! Still a good walk, and long overdue. Hope the snow is done!

Hope your back lets you get out soon Cubdog!
