I didn't hit a very good drive, and it's a pretty long hole anyway, so I played it safe. Here's the best part: I didn't remember what 8 was as we were going up the fairway. Then, as the cliffs come into view, it hit me...OMG, this is THAT HOLE!!!
I was too far back and way to skeert to go for the green, but the layup area to the left is pretty big. I hit a fairway wood well left of the green (shortcut!) and ended up ok. The cup was middle-left and the green slopes hard right, so I tried to toss something up on the left side of the green. I pulled it off, and it started trickling right, and rolled down pretty close to the cup. Made it. Four.
Birdied 17!
18 doesn't look nearly as scary in real life as it does on tv. That tree isn't particularly menacing at all. I gotta tell ya though, standing on that tee box with that little wooden fence is pretty darn cool. Ok drive, pretty crappy second, missed the green right with my approach, tossed in on, and missed the put.
I honestly don't remember what I shot, but I broke 100. As I was sitting on the veranda having lunch afterward, I had tears in my eyes. Really.
Never pass up a chance to play it.

I would really, really like to see both Day and Rickie Fowler have breakout seasons. I think they're both terrific players and good guys.
Concerning Day, one shallow note and one trivial note.Day's wife Ellie is a real stunner IMHO. His son, has a great movie star, to be, name. Dash. I learned this from watching the Par 3 tourney at the Masters. :yes:

I stopped watching it as well. It might as well be shown on The View. It's not about golf, it's about the celebrities.

My guy Jason Day is 5 under though 8 holes. Unfortunately with the perfect weather everyone is playing pretty good golf and he's still 3 back, T4. To bad he spotted most all the other leaders 6 to 8 shots on day one. With a win he goes to number 2 in the world rankings.

Although I understand your discontent with the coverage, it is not without reason.
These big purses that attract the golfers don't come from those who sit and watch on TV - they come from sponsors and attendees. This is probably the most widely known Pro-Am sporting event in the US, and many of the viewers watch to see their favorite celebrity - not golfers. And, they frequently announce that Saturday is "Celebrity Day", hoping to get the viewership to spike. The best way to avoid that is to stream it on the computer and listen to the European transmission, who don't seem to care too much about celebrities.
Several years back they were discussing the 16th hole at the Waste Management tournament in AZ and how some of the golfers didn't care for it. It seems the final determination was if you don't like it, don't enter. Same with Pebble Beach - it is what it is. That, and Sunday is devoted almost 100% to the pros.
Don't know if I'd like every tournament to be like this, but once a year is enjoyable as far as I'm concerned.:thmbsp:
