The official AK golf thread

We ended up playing 9 yesterday. Temps in the mid 30’s with wind 15-20 with gusts up to 30. Real feel in the 20’s. On the bright side we had full sun which made it tolerable. I sliced a 5 wood that the wind coming off the bay caught and ended up 80 yards right of the green. Had to hit a full gap wedge to reach the green coming back. It was an adventurous day but always nice to get out there. Good thing it is Spring.

You're brave.

When I lived in the Vancouver burbs years ago my golf buddies had a tradition, we golfed every boxing day (Dec26) and one year after the usual winter rains for weeks Christmas day it got very cold. The fairways which are usually very mushy that time of year were like concrete, I've never been a long hitter (like 250 on a great drive) but I hit a 5 iron over 300 yards, like Don Johnson in Tin Cup, still going. ;)

I stunk it up big time but it was a beautiful day pushing 70F and I know this Friday I'll play better. My course survived winter quite well and the greens are good, I just couldn't sink a putt to save my life

It's early. I stunk too my first time out. First hole I hit the flag on my 3rd shot on a par 5. Parred the hole because I promptly 2 putted. Then it was all over. Drives were all over, couldn't hit a long iron, even my best club my 5 wood failed me. But I had fun, had a few beers and I'll play better eventually.

8:24 tee time tomorrow am. Playing a tight course called the Woods. May only hit my driver on 2 holes. 51 degrees at tee time warming up to 64 or so by 12. Just going to focus on swinging nice and easy, no need to kill the ball, just keep it in play. They could cut down a thousand trees on this course and people might not notice.

That's how I play. I never over swing anymore. The easier I swing, the better and further I hit the ball. Amazing how that works actually.

I'm not sure if I like watching the Masters. The greens seems too brutally fast. I just watched Homa chip a ball 30 feet past the hole. Every hole is guys putting by barely touching the ball and it goes 10 feet past the hole.

I've played courses with wicked fast greens. It's impossible. This entire course is brutal. If they don't hit the green perfectly the ball skips or rolls off. They only guy who can play it is Scheffler. He's unflappable.

So the course is super difficult and you don’t enjoy watching a pro shoot under par over 72 holes?
To me it’s even more fun to watch.
We can’t begin to understand how good a player he is to do that.
Happy to see SS get another well deserved green jacket.

Compared to The Open where the players hit a variety of shots around the greens, and the weather is a big factor, the Masters is less interesting. Watching people miss short putts isn't fun.

Worst round of the last 5 years this week. How to recover? It had better happen sooner. I'm in 3 leagues starting next week.
