I like the ProV1 balls. I also like the Calloway Chrome soft. I got a couple dozen Maxfli Tour for Christmas. Looking forward to trying them, they're highly rated.

Don't underestimate how much a club can do you in. If it doesn't work for you and another does, it's the club. I was on the Golf Digest Hot List panel for 11 years and have hit hundreds of sets of golf clubs and some were phenomenal and some were flat out awful and that had nothing to do with advertising or favoritism, and especially not brand bias. Some designs are are awesome and some not so much. One thing I've taken away from this over the years is that you can leave 30 to 40 yards and accuracy on the table when you ignore a correct fit for yourself.

My example was a short par 4, but I play a few short par fives in my rotation of courses I play regularly. One in paticular is 510 yards and has a sharp runoff on the left side of the fairway in to water begining around 225 and a tall grass environmental area on the right around 250 or so into the green . I use a Titlest 17° U505 or less off the tee, and the same club for the second shot and I have an easy wedge in. Driver or 3 wood off that that tee even with square contact can lead to a 7 or an 8 real quick if the driver drifts 5 or ten yards right or left of center. Two shots of any combination of 400 yards total leaves a wedge to a receptive green while giving me stress free swings for the first two. I just use the yardage math that the architect of the hole uses to deceive the player into swinging away.
I recently was fitted for irons. While I was at the store I picked up a Ping center shaft putter and was putting on their green. I was knocking everything in. I'm pretty good with putting with my Odyssey mallet putter that I've used for years. But the Ping simplified everything and I'm putting better than ever.

Hitting wedges on the range in 1978. Just found this photo in a coffee table book I stashed in to keep it from more damage.
Balata balls and Titleist Persimon woods and forged irons. I used to love shutting down the loft on a wedge and zipping in 8 foot high wedge shots that would stop on one bounce. The modern ball doesn't do this as easily. I remember that I used to kick my right knee towards the target so I could keep the club online as long as possible with a wedge. Funny seeing a photo of this swing feeling I remeber with a wedge from 40 plus years ago.

I don't know about you fellow golfers but I'm antsy to get out on the course. Watching Pebble Beach yesterday got my brain back to thinking about golf again. The weather here at the Jersey Shore is not golf weather, and it looks like it'll be another month before we'll see the 50's. But I am so ready. Spring cannot get here soon enough. These winters are getting longer and longer.

Quirky weather here. A 3 week January thaw and 2 days in the low 50's this week. Fairway out my window is 90% green 10% snow. Maybe the course opens a little earlier this year? April 14 was my first round last year.
Speaking of Pebble Beach, play is postponed for today. They'll make a decision later about playing tomorrow. If they don't play tomorrow, Wyndham Clark will be the winner after posting a spectacular course record 60 yesterday.
Forecast is for more rain tomorrow too. I'm disappointed because on a lazy Sunday now there's nothing to watch on TV. So music it is!
We had a bit of snow here 2 weeks ago and bitter cold. But for the most part rain and lots of it. It's sunny today and for the rest of the week but low 40's / high 20's at night. There's a chance of high 50's next Saturday and if it is, I'll go play. Range at minimum. I'll play mid to high 50's with sun and no wind. Anything less than that I don't enjoy.
Well, it's official. They called the tournament after 54 holes.
Recently got back in touch with friends I grew up with and they have gotten back into golf after the obligatory 20+ year break to raise kids etc. looking forward to having more options to play. We played a couple of times late in the season in November and December. The problem is they like to play 9 and then go eat. I told them i am not driving 45 minutes to just play 9, they will have to buck up and play 18. We seem to agree that 50 degrees is the break even point for teeing it up. Hopefully we get an early Spring.
Forecast says 58 and sunny on Saturday. If the course is open I'm going to try to get out. I need to get my iron game on track. Struggled mightily last year.
