Last week a member who posts as a 14 handicap shot a 75. Now I have been playing over 50 years and have played every dog track muni in NYC as well as some of the greatest courses in the country. It is a statistical impossibility for a 14 to shoot 4 over par. He would have had to have hit every shot that day perfectly and not missed a putt. He had to have gone around in what 24 or 25 putts? That’s pro level putting. Not happening. I complained to the guy who runs the league and i don’t think I was the only one. I hope the prick enjoys his $13. I also checked and somehow he didn’t post the 75 to his handicap, this is my shocked face.

People cheat all the time. Of the 10 or so golfers I play with regularly only 3 or so are honest about their scores. They are only cheating themselves is how I look at it. And it's pretty sad that 60+ year old men have to lie to their friends about their golf score.

I hear you Snappahead, I get folks lying and saying they are a 15 when they are really a 20 handicap. Bragging they are better than they really are. But to sandbag to the point of adding ten or more strokes to your handicap to win less than $15 in a weekly pool is pathetic. I can only hope I am never paired up with this guy because I will refuse to shake his hand nor will I play with him.
On the bright side one of my regular foursome brought up the subject of the 75 and said he wrote the head of the league to complain. I laughed and said I am glad I was not the only one.

I've witnessed some outlandish claims on the golf course. I get invited to an event every year from one of my vendors. It's a very nice course and it's not easy by any means. Last year the winners declared that they were 20 under for the round. They claimed to shoot a 52 on a par 72. Ridiculous.
 
Well my last round of the year will be this coming Friday as my course is closing on the following Sunday. Two years in a row now that I haven't broken 90, I shot 90 once and 91 twice, maybe next year I can get back in the 80's. Oh well I enjoyed most of my season anyway other that one of the local idiots wanting to fight me on the 17th tee box (Long story). I hope everyone's season was a good one. :)
 
Well it hit 50 the other day so we got a foursome together to play 9 holes. It was more to get some swings in than anything else. Placed was packed, 2 groups on every hole. The conditions were tough as there was no grass to speak of and the greens had just opened and were top dressed with sand. The real problem was the course was carpeted in dry goose crap, everywhere. Sometimes you just had to play off of it as there was no where else to drop the ball that was any better. Still it was good to get out there. Too bad the temps have fallen back into the 30’s once again. On the bright side my senior league starts play again the first Tuesday of April.
I also treated myself to a new/used putter this year after 15 years. A Scotty Cameron Phantom 9, I think it is a 2022 model, going back to more of a mallet style and a heavier putter after years of a blade style. I found that as I have gotten older I was pulling my share of short putts and am hoping this putter will help in that regard. We shall see. Good luck in the 2025 season folks.
 
My course will be opening late March-early April and I can hardly wait, it's been a damn long winter and we hit 60F today. The faster the snow melts off the course the better. Broke my thumb a couple weeks ago but I'll still be ready to go on opening day.
 
Our course went to auction. Didn’t sell. New suitors backed out. We’re in a heap of trouble now. Quite a few friends, acquaintances and just good people live on that course. Damn Shame.

I'm watching the LPGA tournament and listening to some tunes at the moment. Lucky, for me, Cheyenne Woods is playing well so she's getting a lot of air time. Good looking women she is. :yes:. She secured her tour card for next year at the recent LPGA qualifying tourney. I certainly like her better than her uncle.

I had been playing golf since the age of thirteen, but at age 78, spinal stenosis has taken me out of the game.
My bag, down here in my mancave, just stares at me in a melancholy way, but I can't bring myself to store it out of sight.

I was an eight cap at one time.
Now I'm almost eighty and walk with a cane.
Bummer.

Still go the club for breakfast with the guys once in a while.
It's a Donald Ross track built in 1906 and completely restored restored 100 years later.
I loved the place.

I almost quit the game in a huff years ago when they banned steel spikes. I got over it, but I was livid at the time.
Now, my back has quit the game for me.

I can still play records and CDs, though.

I changed my grip a few years ago. Thumbs aren't up on the club anymore and it made a world of difference. I just use them to gently keep the club in my hand. It really helps me hinge my wrists. Good luck!
 
I haven't stepped foot on a golf course since playing my last round in late 2018 or early 2019. I truly love the game especially when allowed to walk the course with a knowledgeable looper or a light carry bag on my shoulder. I understand the need for cart golf, but I hate it.
 
Took a lesson last week, it went quite well.
2 yearss out of the game. I’m not at all good, lol.
There’s a 105yd and under par3 nearby.
That’s wheee the score improves. Hope to practice there often.
Can probably play it with a ‘P’ and hmmm sand edge loft. And my Wilson old skool putter , lol

I’d keep that bag close by as well.
You’d see tons of golf stuff around our place to remind me of great times at the course. My wife puts up with it.
Absolute angel.

Gerome Bettis (The Bus) was interviewed at a TGL golf event recently and said of his football days that he missed the locker room the most. Went on to say that he loves golf and considers his foursome “the locker room”.

Sorry to hear of your health problems. It kinda reminds me of one of my buds in our regular weekly foursome. We'd finish our round and typically go in for a pint of beer afterwards. Part way into last season our bud Lucky would stand to drink his beer, we'd ask him to sit down and he would reply "I can't I've got sciatica", and we'd say OK. It turned out that what he thought was sciatica was a very fast spreading spinal cancer. Sometime early last July he elected to go with Doctor assisted suicide. I still miss that opinionated old bastard. My gold buds are starting to drop like flies. :(

The best way to improve your score is improve your short game. Everyone tries to clobber the ball, then when they get close they can't get it on the green or in the hole. Short courses are really good to work on your iron play. I play a shorter course often the beginning of every season.
