The official AK golf thread

Finally the day will be here. My course officially opens tomorrow and I have a Sunday noon Tee-time. The driving range opened last Wed so I went in and hit a bucket of balls today, I sure hope I hit the ball that well on Sunday, I was hitting everything well on the range, spent some time on the putting and chipping green and things are looking very good for this season. :)
 
Our senior league opened today. 42 degrees with a wind chill of 35, or worse. Steady wind of 15mph with gusts north of 20mph. Miserable conditions to say the least. Between the cold adding ten yards to every shot and into the wind adding two clubs, it was not a lot of fun. 134 yards out into the wind with a front pin location I stepped on a 7 iron, which I usually hit 150-155 and came up short of the green. Putting from above the hole was no fun either as there were some tricky pin placements and we had more than a few balls roll 10 feet past the hole. with the wind wasn’t much better as it was a shearing type wind that was actually pushing the ball down. Three nice drives all ended up in a sand trap going with the wind that we all thought cleared it with ease. I guess that is what we deserved for playing on April fools Day.
 
First time out on Sunday wasn't terrible for the first round since last Oct, I'm a 22 handicap and I shot a 98 on a par 72. Played again the next day and holy crap did the wheels fall off, 109!!! It's been years since I shot that high. The saving grace is I played 36 holes with one ball, not a single lost ball in either round and I used the exact ball for both rounds. I wonder how many more holes this ProV1 will go before it's in the woods or beat to death.

It's amazing how that happens. I've played a great round, felt great, next time out I stink it up. Now I try not to over think anything and just go play. If I suck the front 9 I drink beer on the back 9.
 
Anyone else playing the Vice ball?
Economically priced at Sam’s Club.

And, yes, spring golf in the mud with low temps plus the wind can be tough… and I’d do it again tomorrow.

I tried them last year, I like them. Not sure if they'll be my "go too" ball yet. I do like the Calloway Super Soft balls a lot.

Back about 30 years ago when I played better I never used to touch a beer when golfing, then one day after a terrible front 9 I said what the hell and grabbed a couple of beers at the turn and played lights out on the back nine. Nowadays in my old age (64 and partially handicapped) I always bring a couple tall ones for the round, I'm there to have fun and enjoy still being on this side of the grass so if I play like crap it's not the end of the world, it's just nice getting out there with friends. It's funny that the first couple holes I'm tense and choking the grips, crack a beer and start to relax and my grip and swing smooths right out.

To be honest, I play better when I'm relaxed and having fun. A couple of beers helps me relax and I typically play better. If I'm tense or have things on my mind it's a recipe for disaster. I try just to go out and have fun. I'm competitive by nature so it's a difficult adjustment because I always try to do my best with anything I do. But I've come to the realization that I'm never going to be a scratch golfer at my age.
 
It looks like the weather will start cooperating next week. It's still damp, gloomy and raw here. Temps are in the 50's and we've had a lot of rain lately. Next week they're saying mid 60's with sun so if they're right I'll go and lose some balls. In the meantime I've been hitting the gum quite a bit. Trying to gain some flexibility to improve my game. Hope you all hit em straight!
 
Teed it up today temperature was 42 with wind chill of 35, gee it sounds like last weeks weather report except today winds were 20-25, with higher gusts, ugh. Check out the Mets highlights to see what I am talking bout. Had a ball blow away from me on the green, not a lot of fun playing with 3 layers. Only 17 players showed up and I can’t blame anyone for not playing. Played as a twosome in 3 hours flat. Great round for padding the handicap. That was the sole redeeming quality. On the bright side my buddy playing behind us had a hole in one! Too bad I had left the course and missed out on the free libations.

Yawn. I'll give you the unis - not a fan. Not really a fan of LIV either. Watched a few times, enjoy the senior tour more. But as a lifelong golfer, I can't imagine how anyone handles the pressure of trying to tee up four solid games in four days with the likelihood of leaving with nothing after two. Sometimes it's hard to put one good round together in a row.

To paraphrase Ian Poulter, if someone offered me big $$ to play golf (guaranteed) it's a no-brainer. Where it's coming from is probably a discussion for a different forum, but I can't fault these guys for chasing the $$ to play golf. Good for them, and good for Rory and everyone who grinds it out on the tour, whichever one it is.
 
The only good thing that I liked about LIV is that they signed so many guys that I really thought were A-holes and I was glad to see them gone from the PGA, Eg: Patrick Reed (Cheater), Bryson (always whining back then), Phil (who's prime had passed and started badmouthing every one, plus his LIV money probably took care of his many gambling debts), Rahm, (who's tantrums when things didn't go his way aren't missed), Koepka (who thinks he's better than anyone else he's playing against but really wasn't), Dustin Johnson (who's done nothing since he joined LIV and probably never will again). About the only guy I miss that jumped to LIV is Terrell Hatton, his eruptions were always entertaining.
