Hit the TS this PM and found a clean 2 record set.....

THE BEST OF LIBERACE....

I wonder how many folks are going...."Who in the hell is Liber-what's-his-name????"

Liberace reminds me of Peter Allen for some reason. Two very flamboyant pianists/performers. I think they were on the same team, so to speak. Not that theres anything wrong with that.

I don't think I could get into Lib's music style. I passed up several of his stuff at the local GW store.

I haven't been to the thrifts for about a week. Maybe I'll hit the LP trail tomorrow.

Carl:
I love that LP; my most fave AATW lp ever. Played it to death in school. I don't think there's a bad cut on it. Picked one up on Ebay about a month ago to complement my 28 year old cassette.

In fact, I think I'll go dig it out now.

Remember,

"Western Swing ain't dead, it's Asleep at the Wheel"

After I played it I have rescind my comments. It really is a goodie. Really it's just the Thorogood that I scratch my head over. At
best he is mediocre whitebread blues confirmed by the one time I did have to sit(stand) through a set to see the Stones 25 years ago.

KILLER FIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hit the local TS again today. Have already screened the LP’s so I thought I would look at the few CD’s that they had. Found the following:

CRANBERRIES – Everybody Is Doing It, So Why Can’t we.
Never heard one of their LP’s. I liked the music

JAN HAMMER – Drive
Never heard of him, but liked the CD.

BIG SOUTHFORK FAVORITES – BACK IN TIME
Blue grass / folks… Good CD.

EAST TO WEST – North Of The Sky
Not my cup of tea

LUTHER VANDROSS
Not my cup of tea

YANNI – Yanni Live At The Acropolis
Outstanding!!!!

Paid $1.00 per for the above and $3.00 for the classical.

And for the classical folks:
WEINER PHILHARMONIKER / SIR GEORG SOLTI – Wagner: Das Rheingold (2 CD set on LONDON label, box set)

I gotta comment on the Yanni CD. Now I saw the T.V. ads… Yada… Yada… “K-Tel” all over again… Boy was I wrong. If this is representative of the quality of music that Yanni puts out …Sign me up…. This was one hell of a CD.. The kind where you want to crank up the volume and rattle the doors and windows (at least for me). I was surprised at the pure musical energy that this CD had. I will be looking for more YANNI!!!

I was at the attorney's today which across the street from Down Home Music. Of course I went in and they were doing 10% off used CD's. Oh darn!:p:

Duke Ellington - Blues In Orbit - MFSL24k
The Celtic Fiddle Festival
Warren Haynes - Tales Of Ordinary Madnness
Simon&Garfunkle - Village Vanguard(pre'70 live recordings)
Moby Grape - Long Gone(pre'70 live recordings)
Fever Tree - Another Time/Another Place with S/T

Carl

1. AROUND THE SGUARE
2. MOONSHINE AND OTHER NATURAL PHENOMENA
3. GOIN’ FISHING
4. WHITTLIN
5. A COUNTRY BANKER

Found a couple I've been looking for today.

1. Tracy Chapman-self titled. This album sounds awesome, I've
been looking for years for this one.
2. Tull-Thick as a Brick, do they all have the newspaper
insert? very cool, I'm embarrassed to say, I have
never heard this album, though I recognize bits and
peices of it.
3. U2-War, unfortunatly, it sounds like crap, muffled
4. Preservation Hall Jazz Band-New Orleans. this album has
absolutely no background noise, so quiet I
wasn't sure my phonostage was on till the music
started. One of those rare ones where you can
actually "hear" the silence between notes.
5. Simon and Garfunkle, Bookends
6. Mamas and the Papas-16 greatest hits, it's almost impossible
to find clean pressings of thiers.

All for a buck, I had a great listening night to say the least.

VinylHanger have not opened it up yet. I spent the evening "spin cleaning" about 65 LP's. Some that I got localy and the rest were from my trip to Atlanta. Was listening to some of the other LP's that I cleaned a while back. I was going to try to listen to all the stuff BEFORE I filed them in the proper plastic milk crate:) but I get 'em faster then I can listen to 'em. I am 2 full plastic milk crates behind in my listening:) Then I have to listen to the rest that I had filed before...

I totally understand. I am probably half my collection behnd. I now try to at least listen to half of whatever I bring home, then I am only half behind

Windham Hill Records Sampler '86

Something to Sing About, compiled & produced by Milt Okun - 3 LP folk collection from about 1968. Has many folk notables - Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Ian & Silvia, PPM, Tom Paxton, Weavers, Phil Ochs, Mississippi John Hurt, etc. However, this record contains 3 almost unheard John Denver tracks from the days before he had a record contract. They are probably from the demo recording sessions that Milt Okun used to get his deal with RCA. As a Denver fan myself, this was a huge find. There is a book that goes with this, I will probably end up buying one on eBay. The LP's are NM.

Used record store finds
More than $1, but worth it in terms of selection & condition

Grateful Dead - "American Beauty" (later pressing, mint)
Dixie Dregs - "Night of the Living Dregs" (1st pressing, mint)
Yes - "90125" (a favorite from high school)
Montreaux - "Sign Language" (a good album, and I am a sucker for Windham Hill stuff)
The Byrds - "Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde" & "Ballad of Easy Rider", both still sealed. I am a HUGE Clarence White-era Byrds fan and I just had to have these. I paid pretty good $$ for a NM copy of the Muleskinner album a while back, too.
Led Zeppelin - "Physical Graffiti" (NM, just had to have it)
Boston - S/T (regular issue, will probably eventually spring for MFSL edition, or there may also be another 1/2 speed master version of it out there)

Picked up an insanely great sounding copy of Rush - "Moving Pictures" in a worn jacket today.

Also the "Rappin' Duke" 45. I don't buy 45's as a rule, but I had to have that one...
