the oldest component in your rig?

cool! anyone got pics?

This is my 1960 Empire 298 (often called a 208) living comfortably alongside my 2009 VPI Classic in my old loft, which I've since moved from. You wouldn't know by listening to them that 50 years separates them...one is very much like the other in a lot of ways. It is going to be my mono deck soon, with a Denon DL-102, I think.

This little amp from the '60s occasionally subs in for the mid-2000's Levinson 432.

My University 312 speakers and my Magnavox 9302-00 are probably from the early 60's. My SAE Mark NINE pre is from '71 I think.

My Pioneer TX-9100 tuner. It plugs into an Aesthetix Calypso Signature preamp. 1973 and 2009 making music together.

The oldest component in my system is a Scott 121-B preamp from 1956. I use it for playing back or dubbing 78s because it has variable phono EQ and a dynamic noise reduction feature (Dynaural) that does a nice job of reducing surface noise if it's used sparingly. The Scott is currently out of the system so I can replace its selenium rectifiers with silicon diodes, but it will go back in as soon as that work is done.

That would be my cdp, it's a Pioneer pd-4700 from 1991. Still works flawlessly and reads any cd I have thrown into her so far. Not the best sounding unit, but really reliable.

STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!

My speakers, circa 1953....AK member Sloober obviously doesn't appreciate them, maybe because he had to help lift them....:D

The tape rig in my avatar (Pioneer RT-1020L) dates to '74 or so and still sounds as good as the source, although it's got more noise than a CD. I miss the days when you could just buy tape anywhere.

Next oldest is the Technics SL-D2 I bought in 1980.

In my main rig I suppose the TD-124 which I take to be somewhere in the 50s vintage range. My oldest piece of gear is my Sparton console radio from about WWII time frame.

A Stanton 681EEE body that came with a TD160 Mk.II that I bought new in 1977, I believe. The Thorens has been gone for a decade, replaced with a mint TD126 Mk.III. The stylus has been replaced several times with an EEE-S version, plus a stylus for 78s.
Of slightly newer vintage (I think - it was a long time ago) is a Kenwood KX1030 3-head cassette deck bought in '77 or '78.

pioneer qa800a quad amp purchased by me, new, in 1973 in tokyo japan.
use it almost every day. had it recapped last winter. great amp!

next up, a nakamichi 600. purchased new in 1976 in reno nv. after no use from '81 til '04, i had it overhauled in '04 and it is still running strong and sounding great!

3rd is a akai gx-630d-ss 10" reel quad r2r deck, purchased new in 1978 in reno nv. overhauled in '09, runs and sounds great!

most everything else in my system(s) i've had for less than 2 years. :music:
