I have minty pair of Monitor IIas I suppose I could pull out the mid and check the back plate.....
It was about time to bring my minty Monitor IIAs out of storage to make sure they still sounded wonderful
Before that, I removed the soft dome midrange and found pretty much what I expected.
The backside of the faceplate embossed with "Made in Germany.
Also embossed with the serial number "44-6", which makes the Monitor IIA soft dome mid the Peerless MTL44 8 ohm version, made for Infinity,

I owned both a pair of Monitor 1's and Monitor II's and those heavy 2-2 1/2 domes (5.25 lbs) were made in Japan. (Could have been an EAS) OHM used their tweeters in many models and Ohm used a very similar looking 2" dome on their OHM Model I but utilized it as a low tweeter or high mid crossing over from the 8" mid around 1500-1700 HZ. Those dome units had great range (500hz to 5000hz) and sounded wonderful if crossed over correctly with nice quality caps. Very hard to find now days as I know a lot of DIY people who love them.
I think those Monitor mids were determined to be a Japanese Foster make.
I use the Ohm Model I's daily, pretty much streaming music all day long, great speakers.
The Model I softdome is a different beast than the Fosters but I have no doubt they could be sourced from a Japanese manufacturer ala the tweeters.

This is an interesting thread, I have always wondered if Peerless also was involved with the Quantum mids, as they were with the Quantum DVC woofers. Interesting, my original QLS-4 mids have a black rear cover that extends forward around the magnet all the way to the faceplate, and are attached with three screws. But, the NOS mids that I purchased in the last Parts-Express blowout only have a rear cover that extends slightly forward from the back, so the magnet sides are exposed, and also no attachment screws in this "alternate" (perhaps later/revised) design. In any case, both have the same faceplates with the same "37.1-6" and "made in W. Germany" markings on them.
