The Quantum Mid Dome, Who Done It?

One of the problems with this thread is that there are too many different speakers discussed. First, the Monitor II were made by infinity before they were part of the EAD/KLH?Peerless era and probably didn't have peerless midranges. When introduced, none of the Infinities had dome mid ranges. The Monitor Jr. and the original quantum line (QLS-1, Q2, Q3, Q4, and Q5 had peerless midranges (I worked for a major Infinity dealer in the service department in the late 70's, and that is what was on the boxes of replacement drivers.) The Quantum Jr. was a later product, so it could also have been something else. I was told the original mid dome was foster, but that is com;letely unsubstantiated.
What other drivers may have been used is beyond my experience. ADS didin't acquire braun, they were importers, then started there own speaker lines in the mid 70's when Gilette acquired Braun. ADS wasn't in the speaker business when the monitor II was introduced. (I'm guessing 72 or 73 for the Monitor II. The Infinity's with the walsh tweeters started appearing around the end of 72. I will make a disclaimer on this information, as it was 40 years ago ..... My 2 1/2 cents

Yes there are a few problems with this thread as it's loaded with opinion and conjecture, much of it mine:)
We now find that Infinity had purchased the Quantum mids from ADS.
That's a new one on me.
I'd think the only reason ADS would have anything at all to do with an Infinity speaker part would be if they owned the company that supposedly made it.
Yes, it would be interesting in a timeline as to when ADS took over.

What is not conjecture is the misguided notion some have that Infinity used the same speaker parts that Braun or ADS used, "simply removing the sticker":
That is simply not the case.

The butterfly effect of an Infinity tweeter...

If a tweeter accentuates in the Indian ocean, will a sound wave be heard on the other side of the world?

I can find no statement anywhere in this thread from which it can be extrapolated that Infinity sourced the dome mid-range drivers referred to as "Quantum mids" from ADS.

The statement I got in response from Millersound that "These drivers were supplied by Braun (ADS offered the drivers in the US)." simply suggests that ADS used, or "offered" the same Braun drivers being used by Infinity, independently sourced from Braun, in speaker models they made available in the U.S. under their own brand name, not that they were in any way supplying drivers to Infinity.

This is not a unique situation. Variations of the 2½ Peerless MTR-25 mid/tweeter were used by Infinity most notably the WTLC and were also supplied to several other prominent speaker manufacturer's such as McIntosh, Rectilinear, and a number of others with little or no modifications to what were essentially identical drivers. They might not have had to pull off a sticker but the result was basically the same.

Except for the L2030, I've owned every AdS model.
I've owned all the Infinity models that used the Quantum mid.

Not one ADS model used the Quantum mid.
Not one Infinity used an ADS mid.

Which leads me to think that response you got questionable.

You worked for an Infinity service department and remember the replacement Quantum mids boxed as Peerless?

Yes, ADS licensed and imported Braun speakers and sold them under the ADS /Braun label. I had one labeled L810-a.
ADS did start producing their own speakers and drivers based on the Braun designs and came up with the ADS L-810 in 1974.
ADS did acquire Braun Audio division in the early 80's.

The soft dome mid used on the early Infinity Monitor was made by Foster, supposedly:)

Update!!!!:)
In this thread, I haven't said who I think manufactured the Quantum soft dome mid but thanks to sregors memory I believe I'll have to go with Peerless.

Here's an AK link to a set of speakers with drivers that are supposedly Peerless, according to sregor the Peerless MTL-44( the small 1 1/2" the MTL-37):
http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=657975

I googled Peerless MTL-44 and came up with this pic from an ad for the Peerless MTL-44:
http://www.ukaudiomart.com/details/649159291-radford-md6-peerless-mtl44-midrange/images/851304/

I also seem to possess a pair of Quantum Jrs with this same Peerless driver.

It has the grid over the dome but it sure as heck looks like the build of the Quantum mid.

I suppose I should try and document this Dutch ad for a Peerless/Seas speaker system that looks to be using the Peerless MTL37 soft dome used in the Quantum line.
Before the ad disappears.

And to be fair to the Americans, we only had only one company using the Peerless soft dome mid while the Europeans had a more intimate awareness due to proximity and degree of ubiquity.

Here's a pic of one of the Translator series that used the Peerless/Quantum soft dome mid.

I misspoke.
There was one other Peerless MTL driver here in the US, the Peerless soft dome mid utilized by the Dahlquist DQ-10.
A different version with a rectangular faceplate and marked 4 instead of 8 ohms.

Englands renowned amplifier maker Radford Audio's owner was particularly enamored with his loudspeakers.
They were known to use Peerless drivers.
Here's an interior pic of showing the back of the softdome mid , the Peerless MTL44(though labeled Radford).
Zoom in if interested:):

Having a Dahlquist and Quantum soft dome midrange sitting on my desk the past few days, I got the bright idea to call "Dahlquist.com( Regnar).
My question was answered without hesitation that both drivers were manufactured by MB Quart(W. Germany), the square plated 8 ohm manufactured for Infinity.

Most likely a little before or around the same time Peerless bought the company.
