The SL-110/Sl-1100 and SP owners club.

The wood armboard and wood skirt were probably factory options more geared to the home/consumer market to dress the table up since wood plinths were still very common at that time. I like the industrial/professional look of the basic model just as much as one with the wood options.
 
the 1100 is a good looking table in either event, but I would rock the dress up items if I had them.
 
I have an SL-110 as well, but it's boxed up at the moment as there's a problem with the servo.

It's a good table but it's not without it's weaknesses. The 'top hat' platter and steel pan are both prone to ringing, but these are relatively easy to deal with.

When I had mine in regular use I had a heavy sorbothane mat (Platter Matter) to kill platter resonances. It wasn't as good as the SAEC SS-300 mat I'd heard on it but was affordable and did help. The stock mat is nowhere near dense enough to help much, I've found.

Removing the steel pan altogether is the easiest way to deal with the problems it causes, but I opted to fill it with bagged sand and set it up on still points instead of the feet. This not only kills the resonance of the pan, but the motor and cast plinth as well. Modified in this way, it was a very good sounding deck that was not at all embarrassed by the Oracle I later replaced it with.
 
I have a SL-1100 that had a Grace 704 tonearm I traded for a Pilot SA-260. While I do miss the arm I have other plans for that deck as its dead silent, keeps perfect prat worthy speed and looks pretty cool with its wood skirt.

Actually if anyone knows of a great MC compatable tonearm they KNOW to sound great on these tables let me know.

Here's one I used to own. Sold, but I kept the arm. Nice deck overall.

I still have one, had four at one time. Have so many tables had to trim the pile.
Have had quite a few Technics tables but the SL-1100a is by far the best one so far. Have not compared it to the SP series.

Add me to the list. Bought a SL-1100 with a dustcover in March for $100. Excellent condition but missing two feet. Does anyone have two feet?
