It a chemical reaction with steel wool and vinegar, and yes it’s the same as ebonizing.
Not really a stain, more like a chemical reaction of the wood with the solution. Makes it pitch black.

I already have so much with this table, it made me spend much more time with my second system.

Ok, thanks for that. I've heard of using vinegar stains to turn wood brown but I had no idea it could go that dark. I must try it. In days past I've used analine dyes and agree that traditional water stains look the best. Bit trickier to do, but worth it.:thumbsup:
 
Wow, MM - love your work! You've dressed your table in a tuxedo, giving it the classy look it deserves! I love mine, already - I'm spinning more records than ever before! The table is so stable and quiet and tracks beautifully. The music is more lively and vivid.

Mine came with hinges, but the previous owner had them installed. I believe heavy duty hinges were made available for the SL110/1100 as an option as the cover is relatively heavy owing to its size. That said, the table sounds better without the cover attached and unhinging it every time is more work than simply lifting it off.

New member. Any possibility u can let me have the exact dimensions of the armboard please or do u supply, I am in the UK and have a SL110 owned for the past 25 years and would like to change the fitted tonearm which is a SM3009. Was also considering a having a fill depth skirt and doing away with the feet. Thank you. You armboard and skirt looks great
 
My SL1100 is spinning beautifully at its native 100V using a step-down transformer (I'm in Oz with 230V mains). I am thinking of replacing the transformer to 230V primary so I no longer need the step down transformer. However, will my original SH11L1 plug-in strobe be OK with the new voltage?
 
Luckiestman if your SL1100 100v model is spinning beautifully using a step-down transformer I'd make no changes leaving it in it's original configuration and not go to the trouble and expense of changing to a 230v transformer to "maybe" at best get the same results. Bottom line let a sleeping dog lie.
 
Always good advice to let sleeping dogs lie, KC! Of course, I've done some research here and elsewhere and there are people who have made changes they say improve on the stock transformer and power supply.

The transformer to use is one that produces very little vibrations, that is, a very high quality transformer. Otherwise the vibrations will get transferred to the platter.

I would leave that transformer alone.
