The use of "B" speaker outputs. Why do you do it?

Why do you use B speaker outputs

My thoughts exactly and this how I run my Sansui's. Surprising to see that other users don't appear to exploit this feature.

I am shocked! Shocked, I tell you...

No body has mentioned that the vintage Sansui on/off power switch is part of the speaker selection knob. The knob positions are:

power off

power on with speakers "A" selected

power on with "B" selected

power on with "A" and "B" both selected

power on with neither "A" nor "B" selected

Connecting the speakers on terminal "B" with "A" unoccupied allows one to power up the amp and let it settle in a few minutes before switching to the "B" position to connect the speakers.

The relay that waits a few seconds at power on basically does this for you, but maybe not as long as one would prefer.

Same process in reverse when powering off - with the speakers on "B", the power off is done by turning through the unoccupied "A" terminal without "B" connected, so the actual power off includes only a power off event to anything on "A", not "B"... in effect the "B" terminal is disconnected before power off.

I don't know the actual design/operation philosophy of combining the power and speaker selections this way, but it seems to offer some apparent possible fail-safe function depending on how you connect the speakers.

None of the above. Starting tonight and for the time being I drive my new Stax SRD-7 adapter which in turn drives my SR-X Mk lll ear speakers.

Have to admit I used to stack, but my girlfriend doesn't like it too much. At all actually. And I want to try adding supertweeters, so unstack and put some tiny's on top. :p

Many amps have outputs for 2 pair of speakers....... Do you use them and why?

Or why use B-outputs when you have an excuse for another complete amp?
I think it sounds best running both pairs. They compliment each other nicely.

Yes, they are stacked. JBL 62T'S on top of JBL LC310's.

My CR-1020 has A, B & C. I can run any single or pair. I have a stacked pair connected to A&C so I can run them together or alone. B has speaker wires I use for testing new speakers.

I run A + B or A + C depending on what speakers I am using for specific Music listening:)

Well, my main amp now (Nakamichi PA-5) doesn't have B terminals, so won't be using any there. All my secondary receivers have B terminals (Nakamichi RE-2, Kenwood KR-5030, KR-5600, and JVC RX-1001V). I've used the B speaker terminals a couple times to run a subwoofer and mess around with 2 pairs at once, but nothing too long term. Probably the only time I'll use my B terminals now is to do speaker comparisons.

I have A, B, C. I run the Bose 901s on A, the Bozaks on B and C is used for testing new speakers/breaking in speakers (I'm a speakerholic - I think I am up to 26 pair at the moment. Yes, I have issues.).

My HT system has "A" & "B"; I use "B" for my outdoor speakers during BBQs and parties.

Something wasn't done right it seems?

Well, the receiver didn't have too many watts, but it was one of those Nakamichi units which were a quasi-Threshold design. The term was "Inherently Stable," so I reasoned that it meant I could run two sets of speakers at once. Nope. Lesson learned - you need a powerful amp section to run A + B speakers.

I use my B terminals to power my Stax-SRD4/SR30 & SR/40 and their speaker connections to power my back-up speakers, which are kind of laid back, for when I just gotta hear that scratchy old Moody Blues LP with Go Now on it. Or Moby Grape.
But in all honesty, lately I have to use 3 speakers at once: one for my good ear and two for my bad ear.

I don't have "B" outputs. Well, I do, they just don't really work. Anyways, I don't have glasses, nor do I wear pants 'cause in Valley Center it's a dang desert!

I run a Technics SA-200 as the amp for my desktop computer system which has A and B speaker selectors. I have my Realistic MC-600 speakers on stands next to my desk on the "A" channel and some small Optimus Pro7's on my desk's built-in speaker shelves. I only run one set at a time. I usually run the MC-600's when I'm away from the desk, but if I want a more "near-field" sound I'll run the Pro7's.
