The White Van Speaker Thread To Warn The Unsuspecting

Saw the white van at Future Shop last month. trying to sell a pair of Davici Speakers. Box had a $2,000.00 price tag on it.
I laughed at the guys and then went to my cousin's for dinner.
Guess what he was proudly hooking up?
Of course by the time we got back to the parking lot they were long gone.

"The Dogg Rocket lives up to its name, giving a somewhat uptilted response. I really don't think it's because of the cheap tweet, rather it is the lack of bass/mids that allow the digital style highs to really shine. In fact, the aluminum foiled tweeter does just that. I've found many hours of entertainment shining a flashlight on the tweet and seeing just how illuminating these bad boys can be.

They also have great WAF. Although they look large, you will find they are quite easily moved as there isn't too much weight here.

All in all, at least as fine as the mega boxes, and when partnered with the right equipment, almost listenable. Give em a try, they won't surprise you."

hey thats some serious tech. you cant get digital sound reproduction without enhanced angular cross-polymetallomorphic space age woofer technology. this was a major advancement in advanced sonicness based on the a new scientific process known as inversediscoballology which is what makes digital sound reproduction possible.

I got the come on a couple years ago. I acted interested and had them take them out of the van and out of the boxes and then said, no thanks.

Augy here: Add ( Research Acoustic ) to the list. When I was a young punk I had a guy try to sell me a pair of these. They were large bookshelf type 3 way speakers. 10 inch woofer 3 inch midrange and a 2 inch tweeter.....I took them from him instead. So I don't feel like I got ripped off or anything! ........My teenage son is now using them to listen to scream music. I definatly got my monies worth.

I was early for meeting my dad at an annual car show we go to together. One of these white van dudes pulled up and of coarse i immediately knew what was up. I had a good 20 minutes before my dad showed up so i thought i would see if this guy could / would entertain me for that amount of time. He had several reasons why he had them and how he HAD to sell them NOW. We spoke about all the tech, the drivers, the cab design. He dug them out, took them out of the box, we looked them over real good. About 25 minutes into this with the guy very frustrated but still thinking he might have the sale my dad showed up and and i politely said, "no thanks, i have a lot of real speakers at home" and listed a few. The guy was pissed. Started spouting off how he was going to kick my ass... good times.

I saw some DiVinci's about a month ago complete in their original boxes with a price tag of 1999.99 on them at a local GW....they were selling them for $250.00 for the complete Home Theater setup...

I visited the same GW a few days later and they were sold....

I've seen just about half of the named "White Van" speakers at local Thrifts and even a Pawn Shop or two.

Never heard of Streem before until I saw them on Ebay. I did a Internet lookup for reviews and they are getting nice customer reviews...It would be nice if they were reviewed by one of the Audio magazines as a confirmation.

It may be a novel way of marketing to flood them on ebay and not have a brick and mortar network to cut down on the cost of delivery to the end user.

I don't know of any brand names that Wikipedia hasn't already listed, but this topic interests me because I happen to own a pair of White van woofers.

No, I didn't get scammed. I paid nothing for them. I salvaged the woofers from a pair of Acoustic Monitor cabinets that were literally falling apart. I've told this story before, so long story short, they went into a pair of Ultralinear cabinets I found that needed woofers.

They actually sound pretty nice. The woofers have small magnets and voice coils, so I don't push em too loud, but they do fill the room they're in with good sound.

Here's the system that has my White van woofers in them. Some people might recognize these woofers.

Everything in the picture has been garbage picked with the exception of the Playstation 2 and keyboard. The TV, desk its on, speakers, amplifier, and tuner was all stuff people threw out. Even the speaker wires are made from garbage picked power cords.

It sounds very nice, even if it doesn't quite look it...

Years ago I was working at a tv shop in houston tx and the van pulls up trying to get use to by some to resale, I ask him if we could hook up his best pair of Linear Phase towers 2 12 inch woofers and all, He said shure and crank them you won't blow them they handler to much power. So I get out my marantz 2325 and my little cd player in the parking lot, and fired it up, stuck in a cd with lots of lf punch and was at about 1/4 on volume and the sale guy say crank it up!! I said have at it lol well at about 1/3rd volume all for woofers let the smoke out, And I told him to get lost. He was pissed too.

My brother in law has a pair of those acoustic research speakers he has hooked up to his TV in his living room. He likes to brag about how he got a good deal on them the day the white van stopped him going into Wal-mart. "These were $2000 dollar speakers I got for 350.".

I just smile and think what little Alex would say..."What you've got at home I wouldn't play my fuzzy warbles on".

I'm visiting with one of my customers today and we're just talking about how things are going in general for us. He asks me about my new house and I'm telling him I just got the carpet put into my vintage stereo room. He then asks me if I know a lot about stereo gear. I said that I had a fair knowledge of it and then THE question comes............................................

I ask him why, and if he wants the truth?

He tells me that he was at Lowe's and while in the parking lot..........you know the rest.

I go ahead and explain "the white van" story.

Guess what, they really were in a WHITE van!

Their pitch was that "the warehouse loaded too many in their van".

They wanted $600, but my customer being the "sharp buyer" he is, paid only $200. :sigh:

Come on now, doesn't anyone feel just a little sorry for the Schmucks who fall for these scamsters? Okay, not me. I haven't run into any of them selling speakers but I've had a couple of 'em try to sell me tools out of a van. The crap was so bad I don't think I would even buy an anvil from any of them. These type of people are everywhere too. Why just today I had a guy try to sell me a bunch of old Vintage Vacuum Tubes. Great price and they came with a guarantee too!!
