No offense taken (Michigan resident here :yes:). I agree with you 100%. I could say more, but I'm afraid that would violate the taboo against political discussion here. :no: And you're absolutely right about the climate. There's a pretty common saying around here: "Like the weather here in Michigan? Stick around for ten minutes."

But, hey. With all the negatives, we've still got Euchre, Vernors, and the inexplicable habit of showing others the geographic location of our home city by pointing to a spot on our hands. :D Not to mention AK Fest. :yes::music:
 
Can I ask a dumb question? And pardon me for not researching enough to know whether or not this has been already addressed... I'm at work right now.

Why is it that this scam always has to do with speakers and not any other electronics? Is it that any idiot can slap together a cheap speaker? Those DaVinci clowns claim to make receivers ...UGLY receivers but receivers nonetheless.

Yeah, with electronics it would take more money to build what appeared to be something of value. White Van speakers have no thought behind their design. Just a bunch of cheap shiny drivers in thin chipboard boxes. Some of them have been known to fry amps when hooked up because they were either wired poorly or had a combination of drivers which caused the impedance to dip dangerously low.

I love how there are 2 ports in the cab ...for TWICE the bass, don't ya know!!!

beans they sound like this "Eht's crrrahhpp!" lol. they got hooked up once. got them in a package deal and now i can't get rid of them lol. i may use them for a test project. i have a newer cheap 2 channel sony i might hook them up to and crank it and see how long it takes to start smoking lol. if i let the smoke out is that bad? lmao!!!!!!!!.

My speakers have two ports, in the back, and both are 4" around. And they are JBLs. Just want to make sure that people don;t start thinking that two ports are not used in good speakers too.

Yes, but we all know JBL's are properly and purposely designed and these things are thrown together. I just thought those 2 little ports right in front looked funny. Yours are 4".
 
How about instead of posting pictures of the speakers, we actually post the names and e-mails and phone numbers of the people who are trying to sell these pieces of CRAP?!

My speakers didn't have enough bass, so I added a few more ports. Still not enough bass, so i built enclosures out of paper towel tubes. for some reason, the more ports I add, the less bass they have. What gives?!?!

I've seen some electronics that were either built cheap enough to be a scam (caps that fail due to capacitor plague), or electronic devices that were outright scams.

This one electronic device I heard of was supposed to be an air ionizer. It was a small device that sat on the floor. It was supposed to quietly clean and purify the air... When taken apart, one would find out that the inside was completely empty. The whole thing was just a plastic shell. The power cord just ended in a knot to keep it from slipping out.

That's actually a common statement in other places too. I went to school on Springfield, MO at Evangel College for awhile. I heard that statement about MO...... I remember thinking, "What? I thought that was a Michigan thing!".

Yes, I DID have a pair of Audio Research speakers. Sounded pretty good with some fostex supertweeters in them once I blew the cheapos. It was the 80's, disco didn't have to sound good, just loud. :D Thank god I got them VERY cheap. Less than a pair of minimus 7's.

Glad I grew up.
 
Hi,

I got accosted by a White Van scammer. He kept trying to get me to bite. After the fourth time I told him no, the seller tried to insult me and grab me. I pulled out my Taser and got him good. I called the police, they came and got the man and impounded the White van. Justice and Karma. These folks won't be back to Chattanooga anytime soon.
 
I think one of the reasons some of the white van companies started making crappy AV receivers is so they could start offering "home theatre in a box" systems with 6 crappy speakers.

Heck, some of the HTIB systems sold in big box stores aren't much different from white van specials in terms of build or sound quality.
 
I got my Dynalab 2.8's for $17. The drivers are all marked Denmark and have fairly large magnets. I saw an auction for Dynaudio 2.8's the other day and they looked alot like my Dynalabs so I guess they imitate not only the brand name but also the model number and the physical appearance. By the way, they weren't the worst sounding speakers I have ever heard.
