There is always something Bigger

The amp on the left is my 80 lb., 100 watt, Class-A amplifier. It is a real beast, or at least I used to think so...:yikes:

That amp does have some heft. What's the ratings?

Rome

Your guess is as good as mine. Some quote as much as 185 wpc Class-A. Others argue the point and say that only the 1st 10 watts is Class-A. In the little bit of time that I have listened to it, the sound is really quite nice. With my current amp, the sound is also quite nice. It doesn't seem to run quite as hot as mine. I once had a Krell that would fry eggs.

I am enjoying the amp driving my Apogees. The fact that it will do this without breaking a sweat does speak volumes about it's capabilities.:thmbsp:

Yea jj!

Those Class A amps certainly have a sweet sound, but the heat transfer is usually the trade off. Glad that one keeps "cool" :D.

Even with 100 wpc, that would drive most of the speakers out there with authority.

Happy listening,
Rome

Bigger...I once saw a pair of amps which were CAT or NMR scanner amps. They were (each) the size of a window air conditioner, 700-800 watts, and distortion was rated in PPM. They sounded good. Made by Crown, I was told.

A pair of McIntosh MC1.2kw mono block amps weigh 294 lbs.

it is only 10 pounds less than mine, so your getting there. My Bose 1801 comes in right at 90 pounds and it is not vented as the case is the heat sink, which means you wear gloves when you try to move it or the fins tear your hands up
I honestly use a dolly to move it. I can lug my 65 lb Spec 2 around any place - the 1801 does not get moved unless 100% absolutely necessary.
I also actually recently found a glass stand, yes I said glass, that can hold both amps (yes, I did put the 1801 on the bottom shelf, just in case)
