I'm about 100 miles to the west but it seems Memphis got clobbered. Ever since I purchased a compact generator, I've yet to need it!

It did! I always say I will get a generator, but then I think I would only use it about once every five years and decide not to invest.

My best friend had a huge tree in his yard split in two and almost hit him while he was standing in the driveway, so with the beauty of the ice comes some downsides. It is still something to see. We drove through Shelby Farms on our way home and it was gorgeous. Would have loved to get pics, but we were on a schedule.

Mine is a relatively inexpensive Harbor Freight clone of a popular Honda model. I keep it tanked with Sta-Bil and run it monthly just to keep it healthy.

We visit the Memphis area periodically as we live in a small college town. On one of our annual car service visits, we rented bicycles and toured Shelby Farms.

I would be inclined to agree, but I`m a life long thin blooded Floridian and my area only has had heavy snow once and that was around Christmas in 1989, and the power stayed out more often than restored for several days.
I did venture out and video taped the snow covered unreal looking landscape the next morning for a few minutes before the unused to low double digit temperature cold drove me back inside to a not a whole lot warmer house because of the inability to heat with no power.
Sure gave me incentive to explore whole house capacity automatic backup generator, and which I did 10 yrs. later after saving up enough to do it right.

Will have to look into that model. I assume it can run a heater without a problem? My parents have a generator that they were going to loan me, but it is big and weighs over 200 pounds, so I elected to rely on good friends for a place to sleep the second night.

We love Shelby Farms (it makes us happy :)). I have biked their backwoods trails, but haven't had a chance to try out their paved trails since the bike had some issues. Here is a pic from a visit over the summer with the pups:

We toughed it out for one night. Wasn't too bad since we piled under a bunch of covers. The day was worse, but we just covered up and wore coats. The worst part was losing internet which meant I couldn't work since we are still working from home.

Yes, I`m very aware of your seasoned hardiness/resourcefulness from all your posted outdoor adventures, Dean. :beerchug:

Being I`m old, infirm and cripple and prefer reasonable comfort which includes decent warmth when the area`s temperatures significantly drop, etc. :thumbsup:

I am not much of a fan of winter, in general, but we have a huge hill near my home that kids and parents gather for "sledding" when we have a few inches. That always brings a smile to my face seeing those little red faces running up the hill with those bright smiles.
 
Reviving an old favorite thread. It's still any day on the water for happiness. Found a little air conditioned bunk house to take on the adventures. It sure does change the experience for an extended trip.

Someone gifted a set of SIG bluetooth hearing protection and it will play music from the phone. They are nice to have out here and they don't bother others that decide to park way too close. I've been casually looking at some hi-fi choices in earbuds since.

Walks in nature. Mountains. Mountain roads. The shape of a beautiful woman. Embracing loved ones. Spending an evening with close friends and a bottle of good wine. Many things about Mediterranean life. Exploring ancient cultures. Talking with friendly strangers. Riding a bicycle through an old city with narrow roads. Building something with my kids. Watching my kids play sports or an instrument. Cooking for a small group of people. DJ'ing. Listening to great music.
