Once you get past the pets and smoking part, it seems reasonable. I think any pet related problem would be obvious in the many pictures, and if it has lived in a smoking environment, it has been cleaned pretty damn good. There might still be a smoke smell, but it can live in the garage until that wears off.

In fact, i personally know audio enthusiasts who are so smart that they break up their written compositions into subject oriented paragraphs making it vastly easier and faster for readers to wade through their dribble.

The 1010 uses DISCRETE MOSFET OUTPUT Transistors for its Power

Huh??? :scratch2::screwy: The last time I checked, it used normal NPN and PNP TO-3 case output transistors.

Another one:

The later, and usually more 'ballyhooed' 'xx50' and 'xx80' models, though they had a higher 'rated' output, used IC's, and NOT pairs of matched MOSFET output transistors

Okay, I'm getting confused. I have repaired an SX-850 and it does not use IC's for the outputs at all, in fact the only IC's it has are in the tuner.

I also can attest to how old filter caps were the size of coke cans. The ever shrinking size of modern electronics has done much to provoke cap manufacturers to produce smaller and smaller devices.

I've got an SX-980 bare on the bench in front of me--seems the "coke cans" in it have the 63V 18,000mf logo printed rather prominently on the sides. Haven't looked inside an SX-1010 but am willing to bet it has very similar Elna's mounted therein.

I love how he says that "we are not technicians" and "99% of those folks haven't a clue, and are simply repeating what they've read and heard" then goes on a TECHNICAL DIATRIBE of some pretty technical things about the unit

All the arrogance and yaddayadda sales pitch aside, the technical data on that unit about its construction is true...and I tend to agree with the assessment of its sound vs the xx50/xx80 series.

I agree that his auction wording is contradictory and I'd be willing to guess he wouldn't buy an item for resale that came from a crack head with pets! So why not let the stuff speak for itself? He does sell nice stuff so enough with the sales pitch which is verbatim used in his other auctions.

I'll bet he's a lurker and not a bona fide Ak'er too. Hell I'll at least admit I buy and sell and use the same name on every board. I don't hide.

Answers a lot of questions about condition.

Better than the cryptic plugged it in and it lit up descriptions or can't test bs -- no? Like anything the buyer needs to know what they want and do their research. They should be buying the receiver not just the marketing BS.

If you are more interested in the style of the seller than the receiver, it's not for you.

I have an SX-1010. I know what it sounds like.

I would have no problem with dealing with the seller at all.

What is that guy talking about? I have no doubt the SX-1010 is one sweet receiver. I would think it's obvious and would not ever think of arguing that point, I mean really?
I have a Pioneer SX-1050 and it can handle 4 ohm speakers far better than my modern day Onkyo TX-R705 thank you very much. I think there are more factors to the ability to handle 4 ohms other than just IC chips and circuits. I mean why is it that my SX-1050 this guy claims to have IC circuits in it can handle 4 ohms more readily than my Onkyo which is probably nothing but IC circuits and computer chips? Yeah, perhaps I'm asking a technical question here.
I would have no trouble buying from this guy as he answers condition questions and puts forth some info saving all the asking even though I take exception for his endless verbage trying to convince people of the obvious.
