NEWSFLASH: ...that as my thesis went...

The best of luck on your thesis. Your OP kind of threw me for a loop (education-wise).

One last thought, if I may.

There are no boundaries for music.

Only obstacles, referred to as "Simple Minds".

Good luck in life.

Okay I get it, my intial post regarding doing the Spinal Tap thing about the death metal scene wasn`t funny to you. I`ll try to do better and meanwhile wear my kevlar vest.

Go back and read post #9. I made the Spinal Tap/Death Metal correlation first. Geez, steal a guys ideas AND tell him he thinks the opposite! What's this world coming to?:D

how exactly do you ban music from your house, if a deathmetal song is in a TV show do you make your TV stand outside until it's over?

I figured with all the hate and bile threads aimed at one or two specific bands, I'd lay it down for whole genres.

The following music (ha,ha!) is forever banned from my house:

1) Death metal: sounds like a variety of tortured animals gasping for breath backed by monotonous mechanical beats. The most amusical experience I have ever had was hearing this angry rubbish.

2) Opera: Screaming with style in languages I don't speak like italian. I don't care if they have multi octave ranges and articulation. It's still fancy bellerin'

3) Gangsta rap. Sorry, not interested in "bitches" and "Ho's", prison/gang records or other males sexual prowess and penis dimensions. There is such a thing as "over bling." Hey! That rhymed! I could e a rapper. Not.

Me too...except...

I love a good Aria recital, am partial too acoustic rap and hip hop and can occasionally bang my head to a metal song, especially as part of a movie soundtrack...just sayin'!

yeah...not a fan of much hip-hop/rap

but i do like the ones that pop up occasionaly that are kinda fun
and light-hearted and not so dark..

dislike thug/cussin'/money/entitlement/krystal rap...

*see previous statements by others*

Simple anything from the Insane Clown Posse or their posse, pop-country, and most jazz.

Nothing is banned, but I hold the remote and am not afraid to use it.
Beer

DIXIELAND JAZZ....ugh....just friggin shoot me!
(I know....I'm from the New Orleans area, but I would rather be kicked in the nuts than listen to Dixieland jazz)

"Thug" or "Gangsta" rap

Overly-twangy country music

Gregorian chants (too funeral-y)

Shrill and silly (especially recent) American pop

ANYTHING by Justin Bieber (stick a finger in my mouth and gag until I emit bile)

Every time I get full of myself and think that my opinions and likes are the best, my family is there to remind me that I'm not as great as I think and that I should expand my horizons. I may not like a lot of what my kids do but I do enjoy seeing them happy.... being truly happy is sorely lacking from a lot of adults lives.

I spent years swearing off groups and overgeneralizing ("thug rap"/"crap"/etc.) instead of actually enjoying myself. Plenty of groups like Tool, Can, Primus, Rush, etc. turned out to be really good except I was too much of a self-involved dick to think otherwise.

I am glad you are speaking for yourself. My collection is eclectic, almost to extreme, sans the unlistenable types I mentioned. I am well rounded musically, have played rock, jazz, country, blues, pop, metal, prog and classical. Just because I trim around the edges does not mean that I am close minded. It means that some things just don't appeal, and no force in the universe can change that.
