Thorens TT of choice?

Howzabout the 135? Its basically a 124 with an arm on it.

perhaps the 150 out of the suspended models. Nothing against my 160, but the 150 looks a bit less silly with a different arm on it since you can change the armboard out.

The new ones take a lot of criticism, but I was fairly impressed with the TD-309 in a local store.

Probably a TD 126, especially if is with a blank arm board.

But personally, I wouldn't swap out my 124. And they are still worth finding and restoring.

I prefer the 125 and 160/160 Super for basic simplicity and ease of reconstruction/restoration. Semi-automatics have more stuff that can fail or get gummed up.

My understanding is the 126 can have speed control problems that seem to defy circuit board rebuilding.

The 150 gets no mention? Superb playback when setup properly, no extra electronics to go bad, no hassle\inexpensive type mods that make it sing beautifully. Or you could go whole hog like I did on the one I use to have. Almost a year and a half in the tweaking, adding and removing of things. Table cost me a whopping $55 bucks off the Bay. And I had 1000 times that just in listening pleasure.

Don't get me wrong, I still want my Reference.

Very tasteful 150 there ZB!! I like how the tone arm board matches the plinth sides. Nicely done!

That dustcover give a nicely updated look too, with the protection while at rest for the arm/cart.

Thanks Dennis, that was my first attempt at modding a TT. It is truly a labor of love, and a good ROI when done right.

thanks all for your suggestions. I will be on the lookout .
Am rite now looking at a 80s sota sapphire/sumiko MMT arm on my CL.
So many TTs so little money.

I always liked.the TD318-320 first series. I bought one new in 1988 and mounted a Grado X2+ which was $250 back then and the combo sounded great but my TD318 had a ticking noise in the motor and the audio salon I purchased it from refused to give me another one because it was special ordered. Finally they agreed to take it back and give me store credit that I used to buy my first CD player. Much later I actually did buy a used TD125 in mint condition with an SME 3009 tonearmwhich I later gave to a good friend for 50 bucks believe it or not! I now wish I had both of them back and a TD160 to go with them.
