Thrift Store Find

I picked up a pretty nice set of JBL L200B Studio Master speakers today at a local thrift store today. I paid 62.50. Most of the posts I glanced at on these are years old. How do you guys think I did?

I'd say you did really well, if you plan to use them. The drivers and surrounds look to be in good shape, and the overall condition seems sound.

What are your plans?

I really don't know. I didn't plan on buying HUGE speakers. My music room setup is in a state that I don't really want to mess with right now. I'm thinking maybe I can use them for home theater if I can fit them in the room. Or flip. :scratch2:

Wow! I was just in Woodland Hills last night for family BarBQ. Nice, I bet it wasn't a lot of fun trying to move them. Here's some info:

Your have the desirable upgrade to the 136A woofer used in the L300. If you add the 2405 pro/077 consumer slot tweeter or equivalent plus the right crossover changes, you'll have a sort of Psuedo-L300 for not that much money. Things like this don't come around very often so hang on to them for a spell and try them out, you'll like it. Also check with members hjames or toddalin on Lansing Heritage, they have done these type of mods and can speak well about them.

If they were mine, I'd be checking them out to make sure all is working well and then cosmetically restore them. Even with the piles of gear and projects around here, they would be hanging around and used.

I certainly understand not wanting to change a system that is making you happy. These JBLs could make you change your mind. If they don't, I'd like to know what you are currently running.

OOOOOH, that was a GREAT buy! :thmbsp:

JBLs like those have quite a following in these parts, and people pay pretty good coin for them. You did VERY will, methinks! Hang on to them (unless you want to send them to me ), restore them cosmetically, as suggested, and then start trying different amps with them, esp. vintage tube amps. You'll find them very nice to listen to, indeed! They may well become your new main speakers.

I think you knocked it out of the ballpark. Give them a lot of space and your best gear, and listen to these "HUGE" speakers for awhile. You can afford to hang onto to them as you're only out $62 bucks. They won't lose value, and I think you will grow to appreciate your find, and regret if you quickly flip them.

Heather (hjames) is an AK member. actually I think they are both on AK. good resources, and AK member Zilch is another great resource on JBLs.
