I was getting ready to ID my wife in the morgue (cancer) that morning when I saw the 2nd plane hit. I thought to my self that she was lucky she didn't see all the loss of humanity that day then I remembered that she might be in for a lot of company very soon. I just can't get this day out of my head no matter what.

Mike, my belated condolences. I hope you can find some comfort knowing that she's no longer suffering.

As to 9/11, I remember it clearly. Was in the Country Inn and Suites breakfast room in Ames, IA having a bite to eat and watching the morning news when it went down.

May the victims RIP.

Yeah it was a bad day and thanks guys, but I'm glad her pain is over and she didn't have to see the images we did or to of had a relative involved on that horrific day. I just went by town hall and they have a nice memorial up for the victims and firefighters. It's hard to think it's already been 7 years though.

I changed my avatar today to a shot of the decal on my back window. It's in tribute to the 3 soldiers in my son's squad (9 guys) that sacrificed their lives in response to 9/11. Link and Gifford lost their lives to an IED on 12/8/2006. Donica was the 3,000th US soldier to fall in Iraq and he was killed by a sniper on 12/27/06. If you know your history the 509th is the 3rd Battalion of the 509th Infantry (Airborne). The original 'Geronimos' and the very same unit that lost 650 out of 700 paratroopers in the Battle of the Bulge.
May they all RIP and may we have a lasting peace.

To everyone in this thread who lost someone that horricific day, god bless.
I myself will never forget. It still seems like yesterday that as I was leaving to dress for the day, when the local news switched over to NBC because "something" had happened to one of the towers. Reporters were speculating as to wether or not it was a "small aircraft" that had hit the tower. As I watched, the reporter, who was in a helicopter circling the towers, happened to just catch the second jet hitting tower no.2. At that time I knew that the first was no accident.
I think I spent most of the day glued to the TV.
In a way the attacks affected our family, my uncle, who lives in Highlands NJ (it's across the river from the site) and was the Harbor Master at the time, helped to get people off the island by coordinating rescue efforts. Talking to him later in the week, let me know just how shook up he was. It still diden't make "sense" to him what had happened. I'm sure he was still in shock.

This is tough to watch, but it drives home just how horrific that day was.
