Thanks so much for this article @JayPare ! Did you ever figure out a way to identify metal vs. carbon pots? I'm refurbishing a unit (Pioneer SX-636) with a "clean all" approach, so am trying to determine if I should use D100 > F100 or just F100.

From Mike: "(4) if you are not sure, use the D100 only." > Only issue with this is I don't want to lose any knob lubrication or smoothness. According to your breakdown, F100 should be used no matter what.
 
2025, still confused! Looks like for vintage electronics the recommendation is D100/F100. I’ve only used D5 a few times, to get rid of scratchy issues. I would like to treat all pots, so I guess F100 or F5 would be the best option.

Hello!

Please educate me further! What do you mean by wet air?

I have this lil plug in blower that I have used for the last 20 years to clean out my PC, fans, and air filters with. it's called a data vac. hope posting the url is fine: DATAVAC® ELECTRIC DUSTER® (I love this thing btw. It's wonderful!)

Should I NOT use this when I open my amp up and start cleaning it up? It's never damaged my computer or anything before. (That I know of)

He means from like a compressor someone might have in the garage to fill a car tire. A big compressor.
 
Has anyone ever had a issue using the f5/d5? I did my sx450 with them and it seems to run flawlessly, now I need to go through my switches and pots on my SX880 due to the left chanel fading out that comes back with the stereo mono switch and a little nervous about using the 5%

Use Fader Lube on pots and sliders.
