The City Polka Boys - Long Road to Houston

this is a great record courtesy of pmsummer (he digs fruitcake and accordions)

Ben Zimet ~ Chants Yiddish (Spalax)
France

Well, what does one turn to when they tire of rock n roll for the moment...? Why, Ben Zimet and Yiddish folk songs, of course. :D It's not just a guy doing Yiddish chants as the title and cover might have you believe. ;) Here's a pic of this cool little ensemble...

TIN EARS
The Punkin Holler Boys

Punkin Holler Records

Grumpy needs to book this Indiana band for the next AK-Fest, that's all I got to say! High-fidelity? Better. It's Nigh-fidelity!

However, they do look a lot like that Ben Zimet group above... especially the accordion player (known 'round these parts as Mr. Spideyjack).

Tirolirium
The Herma Haselsteiner Recordings

2009 Col Legno

This is Tyrolean folk music from Germany, or what many of us would call "yodel" music - but the accordion features prominently.

Don't forget Flaco Jimenez, who played most of the accordian for Ry Cooder over the years.

The BEST accordian music I've ever heard is Flaco Jimenez accompanying Ry Cooder on Cooder's album entitled "Chicken Skin Music." He also played with the Texas Tornadoes, released some albums of his own, and won several Grammies.

yep he is great, you should post next time your are spinning him, to help keep this thread going. Augie Meyers (a related musician) also plays the accordion quite well.

When I see the name "Augie Meyers" I can't help but think of the organ licks from "Mendocino" and "She's About a Mover" by the Sir Douglas Quintet. In fact, now that they're in my head, they'll be there until I fall asleep tonight!

"Bomp Bomp" :music: he was the first American owner of a Vox Jaguar organ. he played a small Hohner 12 bass accordion also.
