Today's JAZZ playlist

Are you reading Lush Life? Hadju did what I think is a fairly competent job, others will quibble.

Yeah, that's the one. I really didn't (don't) know very much about Billy Strayhorn, except that he wrote some interesting chord progressions.

Really beautiful and expressive singer, but I've reached the conclusion that she may be the worst scatter of all times. Someone really should have stepped in on these recordings and just said "let's play to your strengths".

To say, He was complex is an understatement.

Here is another Ellington reed player. Norris delivers 5 solid tracks on the French Black and Blue label.
He backed by some other Ellington alumni.

• Bass – Aaron Bell
• Drums – Sam Woodyard
• Trombone – Booty Wood

Together they produce a tight swinging groove. It won’t change your life, but it will make your day better.

I came across this in the bins. I wasn’t really interested until I looked at the lineup. Holy Smokes! they’re listed just above the yellow banner on the bottom. This is VERY comparable to Verve’s Jam Session#1. One song each side of the record just jammed out. So home it comes. It wasn’t until last night when it went through the USC that I discovered it was completely unplayed. As in MINT. No spindle marks, no finger prints, no nothing annnnd it has a tissue paper sleeve that seemed to still have the original folds. Still it got the spa treatment and WOW what a choice record. This think is just a great jam. I am moving this into heavy rotation.

I was going off of artists and took a chance. Glad I did, it is a winner. I now know to keep my eyes our for others in the series.
